So there was a recent change it seems in 4chan X. Now if you make a thread, the thread watcher will highlight your thread with every response as opposed to only if someone directly responds to you. I hate this, is there any way to turn it off?

This Epson Equity I keyboard has what looks just like a DIN 8 connector but I was wondering if there's any way to get it to work via USB. Since it isn't PS/2 or IBM standard DIN5 like the Model M I don't see anything about it.

I will jump from windows 7 to Ubuntu.

Almost everything that i use in windows have the same or very similar to linux, so i think: why not go to ubuntu, since is more safe?

Is Linux really more safe than Windows? (exclude informations send to microsoft, because this is for good cause)

i was think about ElementaryOs because looks good, but it just dont werks

>>58814668
In reality, yes. But you have to think that virtually all systems are breakable.

Leaving deep philosophical subjects aside, ElementaryOS looks nice, haven't use it myself but some folks like it.

Just remember to backup your stuff and save them in a separate drive, and maybe try the distro you like in a pendrive. You can try almost any distro by creating a LiveUSB, or install it in virtualbox. Check that.
>>
>>58814668
>Is Linux really more safe than Windows?

That's relative. It's safer because most of its software comes from official repositories maintained by a lot of people, and the software is signed.

It is technically possible to catch a virus if you install a random program from somewhere untrusted.

But yeah, in practice it's much more safe than Windows. Updates are delivered soon and often which make sure you're not supcetible to exploits or the like.

I'd recommend running a distribution of GNU/Linux in a virtual machine and try it out. Make sure you can do everything you normally do on windows. Back up your data in an external disk if possible, and when you're ready, run a live version to check if your system is compatible (which almost usually is).

I personally run Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and I'm pretty satisfied with it.

>I personally run Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and I'm pretty satisfied with it
I wouldn't recommend 16.04. I have it, and I've seen that a lot of popular software for it hasn't updated from 14.04, and it's buggier to boot. I would definitely go for 14.04.

>>
>>58814628
Memes aside, is there a single situation where this crazy cable would help anything or make any visible difference?
>>
>>58815561

The purpose behind using a digital cable instead of an analog one (drm aside) is that a digital cable will either work perfectly to specification or not at all, whereas an analog cable will always perform at a certain percentage of its peak theoretical performance.

If the digital cable is displaying something, anything at all, then no, there's no way to further improve performance.

Try out Ubuntu first. You can even run it off a usb stick to test drive. It's super easy to install and pretty user friendly compared to other distros.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Unironically fedora. You'll need to learn to use selinux, and not just "setenforce 0." Don't forget grsec, ossec. Maybe rkhunter if you're feeling paranoid, but you'll have to configure it every time you change something or it'll give you loads of false positives.

Honestly grsec is the only important thing in that list, assuming you know how to use iptables to block all incoming traffic

I'll try and keep this brief, but it's kind of a long story.

>go to college for something stupid
>Decide not to go to grad school and remain unemployed for two years
>Even with GI Bill I have like 42k+ in student debt
>Go to really good coding bootcamp
>Land a job paying very solid salary at VISA.
>Today I turn 27.
>Find out that my job will pay for my education after I have been there for six months
>Browsing Penn State World Campus Master's degrees
>6 months comes up in April.

I like the company I'm working for, I like my boss, and I am learning a lot about being a good software engineer, but is it really worth getting the masters degree just because they're paying for it? My coworker claims that it isn't worth it because he feels like it won't improve my chances of landing better jobs in the future unless I plan on teaching. I'd rather not waste my time and energy if a masters degree won't make a big difference for my future. I don't want to get one just to have one (even if it's free).

The questions are as follows:
>Is it worth getting one?
>Is it better career-wise to focus on development side projects instead of going to school?
>Is there anyway to find out what kinds of options would this open up for me?
>I would ideally like to teach at the university level, but only if I had the assurance that I could get a tenured position. I could easily make more money as a developer as opposed to being a professor. Does anybody know if tenured positions are that accessible or would I be living with my mom again?
>General thoughts / things I overlooked?

I don't really have any long term goals careerwise at this point because I'm finally at a place where I can get my head above water, but I'm open to hearing what others have to say.

You know I've heard that before, but I really don't find those grades or accomplishments really that impressive. Moreover, it doesn't justify the autistic resume in my opinion.

I mean everyone I know is quick to point out that the dude has a 3.98, but that's in major. Everyone's in major GPA should be high if they're remotely serious about doing well in school (it's literally what you fucking signed up to study). The overall GPA includes stuff like underwater basket weaving, racketball, wellness, and other gen ed classes.

When applying for graduate school, I was told to not even consider doing it unless I have at least a 3.6 overall. A 3.7 makes you somewhat more competitive, but it doesn't really do a whole lot of justice.

Also, writing your favorite IDE as VIM on your resume? Come on dude...
