Who the fuck thought this was an improvement over gnome 2 in any way?

Gnome 3 should have been aborted.

It's quite nice for an aesthetic, modern ui, but I'm sure many on this board will disagree since they generally disagree with the current state of UI.

GNOME has one of the most ethical/kind communities, you can easily run your gnome shell exactly as it was with gnome 2 if you don't like the changed they've made, without forfeiting any of the new functionality that comes with gnome 3.

In short, if you don't like it just switch to a gnome 2 layout, it's fully supported and pain-free
>>
>>58896336
I do not mind a lot of gnome 3, but the menubars in applications being just one button with extremely limited options inside, and the file manager/file picker is absolute garbage

The same retards that make every decision in GNOME.

I have spare Raspberry Pi and a project idea in mind but I don't really know where to start with this.

So my idea is that the Pi would play music from spotify 24/7 and record the audio output as mp3 file. Then, when the song ends, it would name that file accordingly like "Artist - Song name" or something, even tagging would be cool but not really neccessary.
How could I do this?

Bonus features like showing the current song on 1602 lcd screen would be cool too.

Not very useful because without premium subscription you will only get like 96kbps
>>
>>58896352
paying premium wouldn't really be problem.
>>
Spotify API for queries (Song info + Playback) and ALSA for recording, I guess. Python for wiring things up and you should be good to go.

Are you using the free ssl certs from Let's encrypt?
33 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Yep. They're pretty easy to use. There's no excuse for using unencrypted HTTP in 2017 and there are barely any excuses for paying for a DV cert either (though needing a wildcard cert is one.) We've also started using some Let's Encrypt certs at work.
>>
No, because it doesn't provide wildcard certificates.
>>
>>58896247
Yes.

>>58896320
Why do you need wildcard certificates?

Looking to switch to a decent pair of IEMs, deciding which ones to get. I have my eyes on the Brainwavz B100s, but the Soundmagic E50Cs also look good. Any other recommendations? Price less than $80 AUD if possible. Cheers.

>So every package update gets downloaded via unsecured network?
Depends on your distro. All the competent ones at least sign updates so that you can be sure they haven't been tampered with. I believe most have a way to force TLS downloads too, at least for some mirrors.

so in other words, you're full of crap.

Programming noob, looking at open source to see how real projects work. I just read that firefox takes ~20 minutes to compile.

Does that mean every time you make a change you have to wait 20 minutes to make sure your change doesn't fuck anything up?

How the hell does debugging work in large projects if you have to wait 20+ minutes every time you make a change?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>58895713
No, they are multiple files I would guess and it only compiles the changes thanks to MAKE file.
>>
>>58895742
Does compilation take up the most time of the build process? If you only change one file, does that mean the overall build time of the project would be much shorter?
>>
Most software is split up into several separate modules that are built separately and just combined at the end. So yes if you only change one file, and assuming you compiled everything once before, the build time will be much shorter.

There's a degree of truth to it.
I've reverse engineered/modded/hax0red a lot of closed-source programs.

Because source code =/= instructions

They aren't open source because you don't have access to the code that the program was sourced from. Why do you think it's called source code?

Yeah so what do you-what do you know about graphics cards?
16 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>58895648
A Graphics card is a Circuit Board whose function is to enable the capabilities of, supply power to, and regulate various required criteria, of a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and link it to a Computer system via a physical connection bus, commonly PCI-E, as well as house and link the GPU's dedicated Memory (VRAM) to the GPU itself on the board.
