Hello /g/,
currently considering buying an i7 7700k for my new rig. Thing is, apparently, the TIM between the CPU die and the IHS is utter garbage, causing 85°C+ during load with OC.
While not going to OC the shit out of the chip, a mild auto OC with RAM XMP is definitely going to happen here. And most of the workload is gonna be pretty CPU intensive with 3D rendering, video encoding and sometimes AAA games.
Has anyone run into trouble with that chip regarding temperature? Is deliding worth the shot considering the risk and the fact that I can make a 3D printed tool but wil not invest 30+ in a metal tool made by an extreme OCer twat?

Just wait for AMD Ryzen.

>>58902727
It shouldn't give you a lot of troubles, tho if you can replace the TIM would surely improve the reliability. Imho, if you want to do some delidding, buy the 7700K, otherwise the 6700K, there isn't a sensible improvement in performance. I'm gonna buy the 7700K just because the iGPU is a little better and I'm gonna use it for a KVM GPU pass

Why dont you guys have more chromebooks? How could you shill linux so much and not support it becoming more mainstream? Are you guys just basement dwelling hipster faggots? Do you really care about the future of linux in our homes? Or are you all secretly wincucks and macfags?
I'm now typing this text from one.

Also why do they hate the Super key?
>>58902713
I will install ChromeOS once it has support for third party hardware and it becomes free to use.

So this is the power of WIndows 10.
Unused RAM is wasted RAM
>>58902747
this. I use Linux exclusively, but it's important to remember that utilizing more RAM can enable many applications to work faster. Hash tables are a good example of this. Increasing the size of the underlying array will increase the memory used but also decrease the chance of collisions, thus resulting in faster lookup times. Likewise, decreasing the size of the underlying array will result in less memory being used, but a greater number of collisions and thus slower average lookup times.

But having a low cpu usage is good? lmao hypocrites.
Unused CPU cycles are wasted CPU cycles.
How can I bypass Youtube/Google's phone verification? I signed up for TextFree but Google's apparently hip to them already and wouldn't use it for verification.

Few days ago, some anon said you could open a gmail without phone number using android phone. So I went ahead and deleted my existing email from phone. I made a new one and immediately there was a new verification page saying "We've detected unusual activity.. Please verify your phone number." How the fuck was there an unusual activity in those 1 sec of opening account? They just lied to get a phone number.
Tell me /g/.
Do we have any forms of storage media that does not degrade, and will last basically forever?
VHS tapes are degrading and some even unsuable now, and CDs and DVDs are also slowly degrading as well.
What am I supposed to store something on if I want to dig it out of storage in 200 years after I get an immortality treatment in 2072.

Political correctness aside, how does this even make sense? How is replica synonymous with slave?
>>58902441
No fucking idea. Would call it Primary/Secondary if anything. Related, found this topic amusing: https://www.drupal.org/node/2275877

Because slaves were just copies of their owners.
I would call it Glorious Master/Worthless Slut

Do you guys have any recommendations on a mechanical keyboard that is nice and simple like KBC poker 3? It's around £140 and I'd like something cheaper.
Pic related
Also, I want a WHITE one
Fuck, it doesn't even have to be mechanical!
>>58902279
Just don't be poor and get the pok3r?
I got one last year and it's amazing, just get the one without backlighting and with PBT caps, should save you a couple £ depending on your choice of switches.

Thankfully I won't have student debt (scholarship paid my full way), but I also feel like I've wasted four years.
Any tips for actually getting a (good) job with a CS degree? I've had a shitload of paid internships but I'm three months from graduation and still haven't found anything.
>>58902212
have you ever considered that it's not the degree that makes you unemployable
>>58902228
I have, but once again, I have a fairly decent resume for a college student and a list of references from all the companies I interned with who speak well of me.
There's just not many companies hiring near me right now, and I don't want to move to a coast just to find work. I'm comfy in flyover land.

Which do you prefer and why?
Soft touch rubber mouse or glossy/matte plastic mouse?
I personally prefer the latter option because it doesn't wear out and is easy to clean if it gets greasy. But hand sweat is more fequent with glossy plastic and it does need cleaning every day. I think soft touch rubber is like planned obsolescence to make you buy a new mouse because it wears out fast
Discuss which you prefer or if you have any tips or tricks regarding mouse
>>58902128
Soft touch sucks... it's just a thin coat of rubber on top of plastic that rubs off after a while
>>58902128
Being a bit of an OCD freak, I want to keep things clean. Soft touch rubber gets grubby real quick. So glossy plastic for me.
>>58902128
the one on the left seems a bit much. it looks like a sweat magnet.
isn't the IME 3.0 a better example of the left coating? never used one but it seems it wouldn't rub down to stickiness with extended use, doesn't seem it would show fingerprints and get sweaty much either. Like the casing of a phone.
