Hi /g/
I noticed something is heavily using my bandwith and after some investigation it appears windows 10 is downloading some binaries of some stupid game (royal revolt 2)
I'm the sole user of this computer and never even heard about the game.
Is there a way to stop it from doing such a stuff in the future? I know, I know I should install gento, but that's not what I'm asking about.
>>58916300
If you absolutely have to use win10, don't use normalkek versions of the OS (pro and home), only enterprise.
>>58916300
No idea if it's related, but when you unistall candy crush it comes back a few days later for me.
Just play the games, Microsoft knows what is right for you :^)
>>58916329
Well, I have a license only for pro. p2p seems to be turned off.

Got myself one of those for the office. Nothing particularly bad about it, but nothing to write home about either.
>>58916743
This is what we have on all the workstations in the office. I agree, it's just kinda alright.
>>58916144
So /g/.
Let's watch a movie.
For the purpose of this question imagine you're all Australian.
You only got 1,5G of data to spend on it.
Both rips are made from the same source material
First Rip:
>480p resolution
>video: h264@1980kbps
>audio: ac3@256kbps
>1,36GB
Second Rip:
>1080p
>video: h264@2000kbps
>audio: ac3@96kbps
>1,42GB
Which one do you choose?
What are your priorities when downloading your unauthorized copies of movies?
My priorities are usually how fast I need it. If I want to watch the movie now, whatever is about 1gb and has alot of seeds. If its one of my favorites, then I'll get a copy that's 2-3gb.
I never get archival copies or whatever you call those 15gb rips you yards like to get. Waste of space for something I'm going to watch once or twice every other year.
>>58915844
Sure thing, but which one from the two examples would you pick?
>>58915809
Second one, my dude, second one.

>Master/slave is now called primary/replica
Political correctness aside, how is slave even synonymous with replica? Are slaves clones of their masters?
>>58915287
What about leader/follower?

Please don't use those terms any more. Use "Herrenrasse" and "Untermenschen" instead
Why not auxilary?

How will amazon "completely rape" Walmart when they can't even post a profit? If anything Walmart will just buy Amazon because they can actually make more money than they spend
a high end smartphone without a fingerprint sensor and a front facing camera, am i asking too much /g?
>>58914525
An iPhone, tape and gloves
Are there even any smartphones with no front facing camera?
>>58914525
Without a front facing camera. Every phone has one. They are too cheap to not include. You'd have to remove it.
Will coffee lake fuck Zen?

30% performance gains over Skylake.
Huh? Didn't kaby lake just come out? Is this a /v/ thread?
>>58914452
Kaby Lake was hilariously underwhelming, and Intel decided not to move onto the 10 nm process, so Coffee Lake was announced.
>>58914429
It doesn't matter. AMD won.
How do we make Firefox fast again?
Steal Chromes JavaScript engine, keep everything else
Compile Chromium with Firefox branding
They're rewriting the engine in Rust. While that inherently isn't gonna make it faster, they have a reason to rewrite everything and optimize it for parallelism. It's very promising I'd say.
So what is this new HDR bullshit?
So in general High Dynamic Range can be "used" to create image and display image. Even half life 2 had HDR so its nothing new in videogames. Now about displaying HDR- most important thing is color depth, max contrast and max luminosity(hue, saturation and lightness ).
So does HDR TV just means that they upgraded their chink shit factories and are now trying to sell the same shit but with better overall quality?
lol HDR when talking about displays is discussing how much contrast, color bit depth, and levels of brightness that can be displayed on the same frame.
Essentially an HDR TV should have a minimum of 1500:1 contrast ratio, though the spec really calls for 3000:1 or higher. A normal TV panel wiil have ~6-12 stops of brightness it can display, an HDR panel will have a minimum of 12, and up to 18 stops for professional panels. HDR also requires 10 bit colors which helps reduce color banding issues when showing more contrast and brightness.
This means you can have a movie with very dark sections, and very bright luminous areas in the same frame, without horrible color banding, brightness bleed, or other issues.
Currently VA panels with large LED backlight arrays are the cheapest and easiest way to get an HDR display, but this BARELY meets the HDR spec, for true HDR panels you need OLED currently.
>>58913567
So in generally i was right? Media is forcing OLED displays and maybe 10-bits display depth. There is nothing else to it.
>>58913714
>There is nothing else to it
I mean if you're ignoring the entire point of being able to display more stops of brightness...sure Same thing.
You're being obtuse, or you're actually an idiot.

Isn't Intel supposed to release 10 nm in 2H/2017? Or was it 2018?
>>58913421
i do remember reading an article where intel themselves said changing to 10nm was going to be a huge challange, as the traces will be only a few atoms wide.
maybe its harder to do than anyone thought. or they are just holding off to suck more money out of hapless uninformed consumers.
It's about god damn time we had a bit of stagnation. This means coders will start to fucking optimize again instead of "oh, lets use this inefficient but convenient bullshit and just let time take care of it cuz CPUs will get faster"
what's wrong with ubuntu and why use any other distro for a desktop usage?
nothing, I would consider it stupid to use anything but Ubuntu or a derivative like Mint for a personal computer
Over half of all Linux machines use Ubuntu. Makes no sense not to go with the distro with the most support
>>58912731
Works for me. As far as I know people dislike it because of the following:
1. Amazon botnet (removed, it's just a desktop icon these days).
2. Unity, for various reasons such as being ugly (install a fucking theme) or the lack of customisation.
3. Bloated/slow, from the people who are running old as fuck hardware.
Personally hated Unity when it was first released but as most Ubuntu things, the first release is absolute shit. After trying 14.04 and slapping some Numix theme on it I've had no reason to switch away. We'll see how the Unity 8 release goes, hopefully they'll have it sorted out when 18.04 is released.
Comes pre-installed with a lot of useless shit
