I guess I don't understand much about lossless encoding. How come transcoding an x264 file in lossless mode just to put hardsubs in yields a file much larger than the original? Where are the bits being added?

These people claim to be giving 'higher' quality for less size:
say we have a 320MB 10 bit release
and a 500MB 8 bit release
There's a 180MB difference between them, and 0.64% of the 10 but release is composed of half bits.
Now we've already been though this half bits DON'T EXIST! That's 0.65 OF THE ANIME THAT DOESN'T EXIST!

I'm starting out with Java after sort of getting the hang of Python, but I decided I needed to move on with other stuff.
Anyways, I'm looking for good interpreters, everyone mentions Eclipse or NetBeans but those seem a bit bloated and my pc it's pretty slow, python's IDE was great because it did everything I needed without useless things.
Any help?
