what if android was written in c?
It would crash all the time.
>>58972637
it already does?
It would have 100x more security holes
two things that i don't understand about this website:
1. why are there so many users answering questions? it's not like yahoo answers where you can give a short shitty answer, these guys actually put an effort
2. how does it make money/break even?
>>58972460
cause these people think theyll get a job and link their profiles in t heir job applications
u see ... outside of /g/ people have a thing called 'purpose'
all we do here is rice our linux desktops and make them look 'cool' and spent 3 hrs a day fucking around with linxu cause we have no life

Imaginary internet points

> how does it make money/break even?
if you think that everything you do in life should have monetary 'value', then you're wrong, and by wrong I mean 'never going to get rich' wrong.
>low cost ($10~$20) 50/10 broadband was about to roll out THIS YEAR to all Americans making under 60k

It's called hierarchical issue voting, ShareBlue. Compared to the border enhancement, the deregulation of healthcare and the economy plan, the internet is a really minor thing.
I hate this Pajeet as much as the next /g/entooman but for fuck's sake.
>>58972215

Agreed, but the internet is NOT a minor thing
it is the last bastion of freedom, not even memeing
What kind of trash can do you use?
Why?
Suggest me the best trash can with recycling compartments or something. I can't find anything.
>>58972194
Recycling is a meme
A loose supermarket plastic bag
Because whatever
>2017
>Still using a keyboard layout optimized for typewriters
Do people actually do this?
You'll end up using QWERTY no matter what, only thing learning these alternative keymaps does is trip you up when you use a strange computer
>>58971798
>when you use a strange computer
why optimizate for the uncommon case though?
>>58971798
Colemak has enough similarities with qwerty that it's not a very big deal. Been typing in it for 3 years now.

My R9 280X is barely hanging on to life and needs to be replaced sooner rather than later. I'm not a gaymer, but I play the occasional AAA title at 1080p/60Hz. Is there any reason not to get the Poweredge Red Devil RX 480 except for it being over the top edgy? I'm mainly looking for a quiet card and reviews say it's at the quieter end of the spectrum and at 250 Europoorshekels it's one of the cheaper 480s.
How long am I gonna be able to play nice games with nice settings with this? Does a 1070's additional power for 1080p/60Hz justify almost twice the price, considering Jewvidia is gonna nerf it with the next driver update?
Why the FUCK is there no RX 490 for ~330 - 350 bucks?
Should I just wait for Vega?
The 480 is an excellent card for long term prospects.
The 490 is way too far away, and the 1070 is, well, a stronger card but you're kinda wasting money going that high.
>>58971400
>RX 490
There will be no RX 490, Vega will be the RX 500 series
>>58971400
The Red Devil is okay, but the XFX GTR and MSI Gaming X are by far the best 480s.
My brothers wife dropped her phone into the toilet(yum),
They went to some small phone shop and they said they'll repair the damages.
He said, the phone will sit in a container with an Anti-Corrosion liquid.
Me being skeptical about that, decided to do some research.
Found a company called ReviveAPhone, who sell a kit with some liquid that miraculously saves your phone from the water&corrosion.
Tl;dr
Bro's wife phone got wet, and is submerged in an "anti-corrosion" liquid.
Pic related, ReviveAPhone kit
Is it bs?
>>58971351
>Is it bs?
yes, you can't fight fire with fire afterall.
Certain fluid substances surely help something to reduce corrosion, but they're almost certainly not undoing corrosion.
When something like this happens, just open the damn thing and quickly dry it with a towel.
Or don't give a fuck and just restore to your backup to the next chinkphone.
>>58971547
Even though I've seen some youtube vids about it, looked weird, touchscreens worked tho'.
I mostly wondered if it fucks your phone on the long ride
Do you have stickers on your laptop? If yes, post it
>>58971341
it's impossible to have a laptop looking like that and not be a complete douchebag
What are the differences between a bottom of the line motherboard and a more expensive top of the line motherboard if both share the same socket, memory type and expansion slots?
Would I feel the performance being superior on one or another? How much noticeable would be? Or only benchmark programs would let me spot the performance differences?
Or is it just build quality that differs?
just build quality, and additional ports and features.
no performance differences whatsoever
There may be some slight differences in voltage management and thermal resistance, for example, a higher quality motherboard even though it uses the same chipset may be able to overclock the same CPU more reliably.
chipset
overclocking capabilities
component quality
component cooling
better power regulation for the cpu
nvme or msata on the motherboard itself
miss me yet?
No
Typing on a screen is much more comfortable than on such a little physical keyboard.

Why is GNU/Debian the best OS ever made?
>Suicide OS
>>58970730
why not use a real mach based os instead of that clone
>>58970833
If it would be called GNU/MacOS I would use it. But instead I'm using GNU/Debian since it has a true GNU kernel not like the "GNU/Linux" operating systems which are a total lie
Never used Linux before and am looking to give it a try. What is the best way to try it out on my current windows pc and what is the best flavor to use for a beginner?

Make a liveUSB with Rufus, and then boot from that USB into linux.
I recommend Xubuntu.
>>58970635
-virtualbox
-wubi for ubuntu
-burn live cd
-install on separate partition for dual boot
My little brother wants to start learning a programming language (He's 14. Quite bright) After seeing me doing it for years he's just now starting to take an interest. What do you guys think is the best language for kids or beginners to learn ? Personally I started with PHP cause I wanted to make a website when I was like 11 and then started picking up Python cause that was what my older friends were using. I'm thinking Ruby maybe ? I dunno.
