Friend just range me up asking about recommendations for his first PC build.
Turns out he wanted to know if it was worth preordering a Ryzen, good thing he called eh?
I explained how more cores doesn't necessarily mean more performance, especially if he planned to do some heavy gaming, and pointed him in the direction of superior Intel offerings.
That will be someone thanking me 6 months from now for sparing him from an AMD low ipc trap.

You could get away if all you are doing is offline non-interractive software like pure encoding or pure recording, and simple stuff like that. When you have an interractive application, you MUST have a global loop and that global loop MUST be protected with a ton of mutex locks that IS what will never make a CPU that just shoves slower cores into it not be a problem.

KVM is the best choice for an home setup because it works great and is also free libre open source software.
vmware is a pain in the ass, it only support a very limited set of hardware, it's control program was/is only available for windows (and maybe osx), etc.
On the contrary, CentOS pretty much works everywhere, is free, and is fucking great.

980Ti SLI (EVGA Hybrid to keep mATX case cool).
Is 1080Ti worth it for me?
