That's assuming you don't have any limitation from the chipset or any of the controllers, which since it's an old ass AMD board updated for M.2 with an addon chip most likely, it probably does.

Also, the 970 chipset only has 22 PCIe lanes.

if he has a GPU plugged in that's x16 lanes already, so that only leaves x6 lanes.

Plugging this in is another x4 lanes. That's very little breathing room, and if he has a wifi card, or sound card, he could already be hitting bandwidth limits.
