Seriously, its been decades. Why is digital zooming still a shitty replacement for optical zoom?
I'm not a camera guy but my understanding was that lens quality and lens action look up space that phones don't have (or want to dedicate).
So basically your zoom is just scaling up the same sensors (and omitting the surrounding periphery for light detection and adjustment) rather than any mechanical lens zooming.
>>59091096
Because it's cropping moron - digital zoom will never be better than optical until they find a whole host of new ways to fuck with light and sensor photosite densities, and then it will just be equally good but limited.
When you take a picture you're trying to get as much light in as possible, A combination of wide aperture and large sensor size are what drive the maximum image quality. Digital zoom wastes this by throwing away light captured and information when you could just have an optical zoom or be satisfied with a prime lens and take pictures better.
>>59091096
Digital zoom is literally just scaling an image larger and then cropping it like you would in an image manipulation program like paint or gimp. It's not a real zoom.
At some point I suppose is possible to implement some kind of fractal scaling algorithm into the camera that can reveal synthetic "detail" inferred from neighboring pixels but you would need fairly popular processor in your camera to pull this off, or you'd be sitting there waiting for 10 minutes for it get finished calculating.
Redpill me on Chromebooks.
I need a small laptop for general use, and I find anything above 13" unacceptable, but ideally I'd like something in the 10-11" range, something that doesn't seem to exists in modern regular laptops. And since I heard you can install loonix in these, figured they would be a good candidate
Thing is, like with the Facbook, all of these seem to have soldered storage, and very shit storage at that, and I would be needing quite a bit more.
Is very specific, but is there anything out there that suits my needs? I'd ideally would like for 2 drive bays that you could replace, but I'd settle for 1, maybe some that uses that new PC-I storage thingie that everyone is talking about.
get a x220 and thank me later.

How safe is it to use a 6 pin to 8 pin PCIE power adapter for a GPU?
Just got a 1070 and didn't realize my PSU only had a single 8 and 6 pin connector. However, it's rated for 650w and seems to be decent quality (pulled from a fairly recent Thinkserver). Should I be concerned with using an adapter or would I be alright?
>>59088800
>>59088811
>>59088800
don't do it, it will fuck your gpu up. Made that mistake with a Fury X. 6 pin are only rated for 75w, 8 pin are rated for 150w.
Hey /g/.
I made a website showing all contents of a 2TB hdd connected to a Raspberry Pi so I can watch my moves from anywhere using the html5 media player. Only problem is that this player only supports the formats webm, mp4 and ogg. I thought about converting all my media to one of the three but that seems tedious. Does /g/ have any better ideas?
Get a player with more codecs?
But it's literally changing the filename. If you have a lot of movies, (enough to fill up that drive) then that would be tedious, but if you have a few, then it's just a matter of not being lazy.
>>59088567
That was an alternative I thought of but it involved installing some additional player to whatever browser I was using. And on a phone this might be hard or impossible.
>>59088573
Are you suggesting that if I have a file called "dumbass.avi" I could simply change the name of that file to "dumbass.mp4" and everything would work just fine? And yes the hdd is nearly full.
I just bought 6700k a month ago and now I'm being bullied by all those Ryzen/Kabylike W10 users.

Borders on fraud.
60W equivalent = 800 lm
The best LED lamps well exceed 100 lm/W now.
Lifespan 2 years is probably true.

Okay, with ryzen about to drop, let's have a discussion about ddr4. Many of us have ddr3 ram and will need to upgrade when we purchase ryzen. Let's all decided what is the best bang for buck for 16 gigs of ddr4. So far I think the Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz for $128.99 seems to be a great price for very fast ram from a reputable brand.
