A friend of mine is looking for a laptop and he's on a budget. He wants to browse the internet, use some spotify and word etc. Also there's the occasional photoshop.
Since there's a €200 price difference in a laptop with an i3 and i5, he'd like to know how much better the i5 is.

Both are HP laptops with integrated intel graphics. But will photoshop run reasonably well on an i3?
Can /g/ recommend some good headphones under 100$ for day to day uses

Server hardware used for gaming thread.
I am currently in the process of building a new gaming computer. Let's assume my games fully use all available CPU cores. Would it be wise to step from a single i7 7700 to a dual CPU xeon setup?
I know that performance would be higher, but I am not sure about any associated issues or inconveniences of using a server motherboard and dual CPUs with a Windows 10 PRO and vidya.
Some Xeon CPUs are pretty expensive, what would be the price/performance equivalent of an i7 7700?
I am obligated to use ECC memory or can I use the (not so much currently) cheaper non-ECC memory sticks?
Due to being a gaming PC, I don't need ECC features.
How is the whole idea cost-effective-wise?
>>59094652
>not going from pump to cpu block to cpu block to radiator.
Literally one goddamn job. ONE.
>>59094652
a xeon in a gaming rig ok
ecc memory? no thats going to be slow, no matter what people say about it being done on cpu memory controller, its slow
http://ark.intel.com/products/92994/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-1650-v4-15M-Cache-3_60-GHz
is going to basically be a 7700
overpaying for nothing, OP
by the time you find a motherboard with gaming-standard pci-e that works with a xeon and ecc ram the price is going to be beyond 10x what you would pay for some cheap chinese MB
stick to gaming hardware.
>>59094955
I explained it wrong, I don't need (neither want) ECC memory.
What I want is the ability to run two CPUs in the same motherboard, at a reasonable price.
Hi /g/, yesterday I purchased a graphics card, and before that I was using VGA, but this card only has DVI-D, display port and HDMI, I plugged the HDMI cord but I noticed that color was oddly strange, like washed out, I tried changing the limited to complete on Nvidia control panel but it's not like VGA. Is there a solution for the HDMI or I have to switch to DVI-D?
Sorry for the spanish but this is in the "change resolution" tab.
Install gentoo
Try using a different monitor to see if the problem is with your monitor. I had a similar problem with an old monitor, HDMI input was "soft" looking and VGA was the only other input that worked perfectly. It happened with any HDMI device, and the computer worked fine over HDMI on other screens.
>post yfw you don't do anything productive, you don't even play video games anymore because they quickly bore you, yet you still keep engaging in shitposting wars about $300-$500 CPUs that you don't need but still will end up buying one.
WTF is wrong with me
>>59094426
Meh, plenty of folks own million dollar sports cares and never even drive them. If you enjoy the extra speed for general use you'll get out of it why not? I wouldn't worry about it.

>CPUs that you don't need
They fill an empty void inside you.
I develop software for a living and my $90 AMD FX-6300 @ 4 GHz is perfectly adequate. I certainly wouldn't be more productive with the latest $500 CPU, even though I could easily afford it
Notice how many successful developers don't need triple monitor setups but consciously choose to work with one?
Eric S. Raymond used a Core 2 Duo CPU until recently.
Linus Torvalds uses 1 monitor.
Jeff Dean uses 1 monitor.
Terry Davis uses 1 monitor at 640x480.
None of them buy $500 mechanical keyboards with RGB lighting, handwoven braided cables and "artisan" caps.
None of them buy $500 GPUs either.
You need to establish an avatar spirit guide.
Visualize a monk.
Not a gaudy materialist who defines himself by his soulless possessions.
Instead of the $500 CPU, buy books and read them. Or just get an eBook reader and download them for free, if that's more your thing.
Worldly possessions are a deceptive drug, that ultimately just steal your vibes.
Remember that you will die. Life will end.

hey /g/,
I want to backup some personal data, is there any online service you suggest now that dropbox was compromised?
or should I just go tinfoil and and viseversa to a disconnected hardrive?
shameless bump.
how big is the data and does it contain anything illegal ?
>>59094263
dropbox was never recommended
the best way of backing up data is buy going and buying an external hard drive and copying shit to that

Am I really the only one a bit concerned?
Cinebench was just fine when it showed intel winning
>>59093955
So you're not worried by that? If they were dominating all benches, wouldn't they want to show that off? Why still have the NDA a week from launch?

Hey Y'all,
Can Anyone recommend me a FLAC Joiner?
I have several of songs in FLAC format, that are split up in 4-6 files.
Thanks!
Just use ffmpeg
>>59093472
Thanks for the tip.
However, I forgot to state that I am not exactly very computer literate. Therefore, If its possible, I need something with a GUI.
>>59093605
or you could just google up the ffmpeg commands you need to enter to do what you want
