Why don't keyboard manufacturers put the numpad on the left side? I mean most people would agree that having your mouse as close as possible to the keyboard is the norm and it would be great if you didn't need to keep adjusting your wrists to type properly on a full sized keyboard.
You could by a TKL or a 60%, then again You'd lose data crunching or hotkey capabilities a lot. Then again, you can buy a dedicated numpad but it really feels awkward when it keeps moving around.
Why is it so hard to find a decent keyboard with great ergonomics or a detachable numpad without having the retarded gamer look?
Probably because most people were used to using hand held calculators with their right hand
>>59097511
I've always hated having to let go of the mouse to use the number pad with my right hand. Using my left hand doesn't work either because of the way I usually sit, causing an extremely awkward angle, as if I'm typing on it sideways.
>>59097495
Going to have to side on the reason that it is because most of the world is right-handed. Same reason the mouse is always on the right side. I think designers made an efficient design. When you use your calculator, do you use your left hand or your right hand mainly? I am left-handed, but having the num-pad on the right works fine IMO. If it were on the left it would throw me off. I would no longer be able to punch in numbers without looking like I can now.

Hello /g/,
I heard that some tech companies ask """"creative""" questions like if you were really small how would you escape a blender, how to do fizzbuzz, etc. This is fine and all and I feel confident that I can accomplish these tasks, unfortunately I was told to expect to perform these tasks for the HR interview with Microsoft tomorrow.
So what gives, /g/, I've read that some perfectly capable coders have been rejected despite answering everything correctly because, despite being correct and efficient, it wasn't """""company correct""""".
When I go in to Microsoft on monday for my interview with HR and they ask me to traverse a binary tree, should I pull my pants down and take a shit on the floor to show that I can fit into Microsoft's corporate culture?
>>59097278
What?
>>59097278
Ok, 10 years in HR being in charge of hiring at a Silicon Valley IT firm (I won't say which one but it recently was renamed on the stock market to a type of children's soup made by Campbells from something that sounds like a funny expression to do with eyes starting with a letter in the alphabet between f and h)
listen, these questions about traversing a binary tree, and other such bullshit isn't about actually testing you for hiring.
It's their way to screen out white males from employment.
They give you these basic shit free-form questions, then it establishes a "justification" for not hiring you. the followup call goes something like this "We really liked you, in fact all the managers who reviewed your answers liked them. However one manager did not like how you answered part of your question and doesn't believe you'd fit in. Thank you for applying!"
The answers a woman and minority give don't matter as long as they can answer the question, it's the white males who get "screened" out by this process, and thus we can claim we're "diverse".
The only times a white male gets through this gauntlet is either if he blows us away OR he's referred to us by a boss OR we've already met our minority/female hiring quotas.

I'm polish and slavs aren't white. Do you think I will get the job?
Why do _IONBF, _IOFBF, and _IOLBF start with underscores?
>>59097234
so if some fag decides to name something else IONBF it wouldn't cause problems.
>>59097302
Then why isn't that the case for the other macros in the C standard library? Shouldn't stdin be _stdin?
>>59097366
who in their right mind would call anything THEY make/define as stdin?

Is there a problem learning programming from old books?
I didn't learn anything from my OOP/C++ professor so I decided to learn from this book which I picked from a curated list on StackOverflow and seems like it is exacty what I need, but its from 2000, fucking 17 years old, will it be filled with outdated practices or something?
A C++ book from 2000 may teach you the concepts of C/C++, but it will obviously not teach you C++ 11/14/17 which bring the language up to, what some would consider, a modern language.
Unless you are looking to enter a field of: finance, electronics, high-performance computing, game development, low-level systems or working on legacy code (what I do, it sucks dick), then you should pick a different language.
>>59096360
yes
>>59096801
I'm not looking to land a job with it, I just want to learn for the sake of learning and have a foundation to higher level languages, also maybe have some hobby projects like game dev.
What book would you recommend that is relevant to current practices?

I'm at work at a new job; I have a shitload of free time so I need to shitpost. It is a very large company, and wifi access is limited to a single SSID with little support for non company devices.
I purchased a VPN so I can browse safely without being filtered or watched, but there have been a few times where I forgot to turn it on/back on after sleeping and tried to load 4chans before realizing that I wasn't secured. Yesterday my laptop wouldn't connect to the internet at all here; on Ubuntu or Windows. I could connect to the access point but not to the internet. I know that the access point is working because my phone works as well as the phones of everyone else who works here. I know they didn't just ban my Mac address because I spoofed it on Windows and I still couldn't connect. I tested the guest SSID on my work machine and also didn't have internet access.
Is it possible that they just decided to ban all non-mobile devices from the internet recently? Would a company ever do that? Is it possible to spoof my Mac address and device type to read as a mobile device to test this?
>>59096070
The sysadmin is onto you OP, he sees a shitton of weird traffing going to a VPN and put his foot down
ur fucked, I would not fuck around with it as they might catch and fire you now
just buy a data plan for your phone and tether your laptop to it, problem solved
>>59096667
So he range banned all Windows/Linux PCs from the network? I figured if he was onto me he'd just ban my Mac address
>>59096070
OP: let me get this straight:
your machine -> company router -> vpn, right?
where do you think they're going to be monitoring traffic?

799 is a great price for a laptop Witz a quad core and dedicated GPU.
If you want more performance later you can always install an SSD and more memory. I would not recommend it at the moment though, AS prices for these components are through the roof right now.

Google chrome is officially the worst shit imaginable.
Its worse then IE.
Constant insane memory leaks.
Tabs crash more then on FF.
And for fun it decides that the pirate bay is not safe for browsing.
Name one thing that is good about chrome?
It's fast
