I want to improve my ability to write efficient algorithms.
I downloaded TAOCP by Knuth, but his hypothetical MIX computer seems very outdated.
I've heard people recommend CLRS. Any others I should look into?
>>59135637
Skiena's algorithm design manual and Sedgewick's algorithms are really good companions (but bad if you're using them as your only book) to CLRS since I found CLRS to be terse and boring as fuck. Some of the explanations for algorithms are really bad if you're studying alone with no previous exposition to the topic. TAOCP is not suited as a first algorithm book imo.
>>59135754
So do you mean I should read all 3 concurrently? As in, read CLRS, of which I'll absorb a % of since it's boring and terse, and then fill in my gaps with the accompanying sections in Skiena and Sedgewick?
Which books should I do the problems out of? Or all 3?

>is it as good as leddit says it will be
>they claim it will rival intel
is this true?
>>59135307
Put it this way, the only thing the Intel shills can find to bitch about is the fact that the R7 1700 is outperformed by the 7700K in single threaded tasks. (The R7 1700 being a lower power, higher core count, lower clock speed and often cheaper part).

so is it worth it
For those without the Windows 10 Explorer iso mounting, are you still using DaemonTools? I remember it being so janky at times but hadn't heard of anything else coming along.
>windows only got the ability to mount images 2 years ago
holy lel. even os x had it from start
I always just unpack ISOs with 7zip, is that wrong?
>>59135147
Iso mounting was present starting with windows 8, either via explorer or powershell cmdlet (mount-DiskImage -ImagePath)
>>59135124
Was using Virtual CloneDrive, but there are plenty free alternatives to daemon tools.
>>59135173
If you need files right now, mounting is faster option. I.e. you don't have to wait to unpack.
Apple hate thread
>>59134555
slagging off one company, and you likely use a similar company.. APple ecosystem is still better than anything out there. go cry somewhere.
Android was invented by google not becaus ethey want to have a nice os to compete but because they want to know where you are to sell prime targeted location based advertising.
Apple/Google/etc they're all corporate scum and yet we follow them like the false idols they are.
>>59134555
why do you care what other people use?
>>59134555
I switched to an iPhone SE after having been with Android since day one. The OS is a bit of a mess, but the phone is nicer than anything Google's partners ever made for the Nexus line.
Also, I escaped a botnet designed to sell my shit to the highest bidder and replaced it with a botnet designed to get me to buy more shit.
I prefer the latter.

:DDDDDD
>>59131717
What's the meaning of this!
>>59131717
eww
They're just re-using the 3310 brand but dumping their new shit in it. The only thing that looks the same are the shape of the buttons.
What a let down.
should have made it thicker with no oval screen bevel
Why does nobody make phones with physhical keyboard? If Nokia just made Nokia E71 with LTE, Wi-Fi and better camera, then I would buy it.
>>59131484
Normies want screen real estate for browsing the web and watching videos.
>>59131484
>then I would buy it.
There's the problem. You would buy it. /g/ autists would buy it. Who else would buy it? No one. Businesses and individuals who're still stuck onto the concept of a physical keyboard are sucking off the remains of BlackBerry.
Whats the point of ultra quiet meme coolers when the gpu is going to be the loudest part of the system under any real load?
because gpu have the best heatsinks they can for physical limitations stock
>>59129786
No they don`t
And even then they are loud
>>59129823
My Sapphire R9 290 is relatively quiet. Also the CPU cool can be extremely louder. Though if you VSYNC etc. games tend to not use the CPU much.

Fuck off.
Hi /csg/, some people requested me doing an EDC video. so here it is. I carry a lot of crap in my backpack, so it turned out to be pretty long.

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or Mac.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

A while ago someone mentioned that on some (but not all) distros, apropos is a symlink to whatis.
I checked for myself, and on debian stable apropos is indeed symlinked to whatis.
However, I get different results from the 2 commands.
There are no extra options hidden in aliases, so what is this black magic?
>>59127888
yo, 888, can you tell me about a DE / distro / lookalike of windows?
it should literally work like windows - double click to run videos and shiet, etc. [ bonus points for having most useful software preinstalled like any linux distro]
i'm not into gaymen, so trying to move to linux.
>>59128125
Most GNU/Linux distros which come with a DE like GNOME, MATE, KDE all do this. Looks are easy customizeable too. For a beginner, I'd recommend any favor of *buntu.
WTF.
Rust beats C++ on the shootout now?
...ok, found out why. It has the fastest performance on the regex test by far because it has macros that create optimized regex code at compile time. That pulls down the geometric mean used in the test.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

Bought a T420 on ebay.
> Put an SSD/16GB RAM in there.
> Got a 9cell battery.

So glad I didn't get meme'd this is the best purchase I've ever made. £300 for an awesome machine, cheers chaps.
Is the t430 still good in terms of build? It looks nice, I want to upgrade my old as fuck dell. I wish it had blue enter key though. Is it worth getting overall? It has the performance I want. Is there something better for a dgpu with good build but not ridiculous (w tier) screen size and weight?
What do you think of the x24 ?
