Firefox Hardware Acceleration on or off? After all these years I've never heard a definitive answer on this.
>>59173812
On, otherwise the GPU would do close to nothing. + Disable smooth scrolling, it's shite.
>>59173812
Depends on your drivers, firefox is notoriously crashy on some.
I had to turn it off because it would crash when using 4chanX. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm considering applying to work at MindGeek as a developer. Anyone here work for them or have worked for them in the past? Is the pay decent? How is the company culture?
Most people here can't even get rejection emails to their CVs, what makes you think they have software jobs?
>>59173526
Ah, good to know. I'll be heading back to >>/reddit/ then.
>>59173518
Its a retard job for FAGGOTS and retards, so should be perfect for you, fucking faggot

Audiofags:
What is the /g/ approved TV budget surround sound setup?
I have a 65" Samsung LED, it has great picture, but I'm a total pleb when it comes to audio. I'd like to spend no more than $300 for a decent sound setup that doesn't have me cranking the volume up and down for whispers and explosions.
What do you guys think about soundbars? Meme? Curious to know your thoughts.
>>59173302
>What do you guys think about soundbars? Meme?
Meme.
In your case, probably go for headphones.
>>59173339
Sorry, I should have specified that this is for both my wife and I.
>>59173517
$300? Tough. So I assume you live in murica, I don't really know the market over there.
What's the room size about?

How did you start learning C++? I really like the codecademy format (lol) to get familiar with the language and for basic introduction to syntax but there's no such thing for C++. Any favorite books or websites?
>>59172602
>How did you start learning C++?
I got hired as a developer and the existing code base was in C++
Before you ask, no I didn't fake my way in. The employer was fully aware that I didn't know any C++ before, but they were impressed enough with my technological knowledge that they hired me anyway.
Anyway, favourite C++ books:
Effective C++, More Effective C++, Effective Modern C++, by Scott Meyers
Exceptional C++ and More Exceptional C++ by Herb Sutter

MSDN C++ Language Reference

What kind of technological knowledge did you have?

What video card is going to work best with a Vega cpu?
I am aiming to spend about $400-500 on a video card. I am assuming an AMD gpu is better for an AMD processor like it always has been.
What get?

It would actually be nice if AMD GPU drivers used some SIMD only present on AMD CPUs for higher performance, now I don't know what part of the drivers would be worth it to vectorize but there might be something..
Problem is,if they do this then the drivers won't Install on competing chips without that SIMD support.

Stop calling the GNU operating system "Linux".
Things that don't exist:
>linux os
>linux box
>linux shell
>linux server
>linux machine
>linux desktop
>linux computer
>linux terminal
>linux command line
Linux is a program (a kernel), which is used in serveral operating systems; it's not a complete operating system itself.
>>59171678
No.
Also, GNU isn't an OS either. A good compiler plus a bunch of shit-tier userland tools don't make an OS.
Why not call it Chrome/KDE/Linux then?
Hypocrite.
>>59171678
the insane amount of drivers built for the Linux system makes it an "operating system", a vague term whose definition is rooted in workflows associated with 1960s era mainframes
So I just got my hands on this badboy, a GTX 1070 Strix OC. I'm told it can OC way higher than the factory OC but by how much, I'm not sure so I'm supposed to just find out with MSI Afterburner.
With that said, is there anything at all I can do with these sliders that would end up harming my GPU permanently via overclocking?
Also, anybody with this card got any good experience with it?
>>59171578
gpu overclocking performance is negligible. not worth your time
>>59171758
But can it perma damage my GPU?
