If one were to build a new PC today how would they not go with an r7 1700 Ryzen?

You are honestly going to take +10% gaym performance of an 4c/8t CPU over the ability to load up anything you want, launch a game and still maintain the same gaym performance of an 8c/16t Ryzen CPU?

You'd rather have to shut everything you're doing down in order to enjoy the performance advantage vs the ability to not give a fuck and just load a gaym up ?

Keep in mind, every review site noted the IPC of Ryzen is much better than the gaym benches indicate which in all reality will be put it in the ballpark of 90-110% of kabylake (90% on avg) after the bugs are ironed out.

Yeah "the bugs" I referred to that I've seen thus far from user reports include turbo not enabling properly possibly as a result of windows power management or BIOS update being needed. SMT not functioning properly. Memory overclocks disable cores which is another BIOS update issue and other various BIOS and Windos setting changes that will invariably all be easily resolved. I mean looking at the raw power of Ryzen and the value 1700 offers you'd have to be really dumb to not go AMD at this price point.

What is the best Linux distro out there /g/

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

A break from the usual /g/ bullshit over Ryzen.

I'm trying to clone my Apartment Building's access card. When the rental office is closed (after 5pm), you need an RFID card to enter the building. Or someone needs to let you in. Or someone, inevitably, just leaves a rock in the door most nights. I don't mind carrying the card with me, it's blank and reads from a decent enough distance away that I can leave it in my pocket and just hip-bump the reader and unlock the door.

But, if you want a 2nd card, or to replace yours, the complex wants $85 per card. Naturally, this is to prevent people from just giving people cards, and the building be insecure, I understand that, but it's pretty annoying knowing that if I lose my card at work or my wallet gets lifted, I'm fucked to the tune of $85 just to be allowed to return to my apartment at night or on the weekends. Or if I want to give my parents a card to make sure I'm not dead, I've got to shell out $85, for a card that might get used once in it's whole life, to make sure it works.

So, I want to duplicate my card. I'm not starting from scratch. I know the cards are ISO 15693. I've used my phone and read all the data off the card, and even dumped the internal block data. Which is blank. And the cards themselves are only about 28-blocks in size, so I can't imagine theres an encrypted partition containing anything. My best guess, gathered from reading up online about access control systems and ours in particular, is that it's reading the UID of the card, reporting it back to a central server or host, which is giving it a thumbs up or down on opening the door. Which seems fair, you can disable access for people who've moved out, or whatever.

So then, the question becomes, how do I clone/replicate the UID of an ISO 15693 card to another card/tag? Mifare, I know, has ways, but I haven't come across one for ISO 15693. Anyone here ever tackled this before?

>board is flooded by dumb children

The hardware required alone to decrypt and replicate a card to work with 15693's modulation index as with the time spent to copy raw data chunks from UID elements with in stable chink-tier platform specific hardware is really not worth it, also you may also recieve a deposit on a card back once you return it, ask your complex

Even in the technology community, drama sells. Someone could probably make a mainstream drama along the lines of Big Bang Theory levels of intelligence about people arguing over processor scores and brand allegiance and sell it to CBS for big bucks.

My brother wants a new PC with only one main usecase:

Playing Overwatch at 4K60 and streaming it at 720p60.

What are the recommended CPU and GPU? i7-7700K and GTX 1080? The new Ryzen chips are out but I don't know how they would fare in this scenario.

Even in very abstract and niche metrics Ryzen has an average 46% uplift in IPC over Excavator.
Its perf/watt is extremely high.
In productivity workloads the 1800X has an average 99% of the performance of a i7 6950X.

Its already great, and it will only get better as vendors iron out the kinks in their BIOS, and Microsoft eventually has their crack team of curry code slaves release a scheduler patch.

>In an effort to attract audiophiles away from Tidal, Spotify is reportedly gearing up to launch a new lossless audio tier. According to The Verge, the new feature, called 'Spotify Hi-Fi', will offer all the same features one would get with a Premium subscription, along with “lossless CD quality audio.”

>A small number of Spotify subscribers have allegedly received prompts encouraging them to upgrade to the new tier, which will reportedly range from an additional $5 to $10 per month. That’s on top of Spotify Premium’s $9.99 per month price; users could be spending as much as $20 per month for access to higher fidelity audio.

>That price is on a par with Tidal’s HiFi subscription, which offers premium features and lossless audio for $19.99 per month.

>With over 40 million paying subscribers, Spotify is in a good position to convert its users over to the higher tier. Now, it’s just a matter of getting the pricing right, because it doesn’t appear the service has quite finalized the details.

>In addition to higher audio quality, a Spotify Hi-Fi subscription may offer other perks, such as discounts on limited-edition vinyls.
