Were skins a useless fad? If not, why did they decline in popularity?

/g/ still rices their OSes.
>>59223786
That true, but fewer mainstream programs seem to support skinning.

Its usually apart of that product's brand and they would prefer if users didn't change it.
How many days without turning off your phone?
You can turn off a phone?
>>59223717
I remember my old Palm phone that you literally could not turn off without removing the battery.
I think the engineers were uptime fetishists.

xps 13 knockoff
might as well get the real thing
Well, my hard drive just crashed on my T440p, I'm not sure what happened to the Windows install disk, and the thing had been running kinda shit lately anyway, so I figure I'll just get a new laptop.
I'm a useless shit and don't do anything important ever, so I just want something reliable I can use to watch movies, play old Playstation games, and jerk off with. Don't care that much about size or aesthetics, aside from preferring the touchpad be in the middle rather than to the size.
I'd like to spend between $500-700.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
pls respond senpies
For that kind of money you can get a decent machine with 8gb ram, ssd and either i5 or i7 U, stay away from HP and Acer and you should be fine with any brand

Few months ago, I've bought a notebook. I wanted it to be a PC replacement, so I could use Photoshop, Lightroom, and play some World of Warcraft or less demanding games. I had no fucking idea about notebooks, that's why I've bought Acer with GTX 960M and i7-6700hq. It was okay, screen was great before dead pixels, but oh boi, that overheating and build construction. It was cheaper than other 960m laptops with the same CPU, meh. Now I am wondering what the hell can I do with it. I'm yuropoor, so I won't buy another one. I was wondering about Changing the chasis or making a mini PC build of it, because most of the issues are caused by CPU being 80-95 degrees hot all the time. Any tips for the lost cause?
and the fuckin screen keeps dimming & lowering it contrast while the image is dark. I mean, I tried everything - regedit, changing power plan, changing Intel GPU power plan (disabling "adaptive brightness" on battery/plugged and whatnot) and nothing. So any tips would be appreciated.
And this fucker's model is acer vn7-592g (nitro black edition fucking meme)

bump, need help with that screen dimming
all drivers are up to date, winshit 10
screen dimming sounds like some kind of "dynamic contrast" and you sound like a newfag from /v/

Javascript is objectively the best language. Glad now it's popular too.
I've heard rumors that AMD is considering official support for Coreboot on their new chips as well as releasing the source code (and possibly keys) to the PSP micro-controller, or at least a way to disable it. The best we have on Intel after the Core2 Duo is ME Cleaner which partially de-blobs and neutralizes the management engine. If AMD does this, they'll make shitloads of money off of an untapped market of companies and people who are security conscious and want the power of a modern computer.
If AMD doesn't do this, their latest CPUs will be shit like all the others.
would be nice but
>rumors
>hey'll make shitloads of money off of an untapped market
The market is smaller than you might think.
People with enough money to make the difference don't give a shit.
>>59223478
>The market is smaller than you might think.
You're wrong. If the PSP can be disabled by changing a single BIOS setting, then anything with those chips will sell like hotcakes. Everyone from journalists to pedophiles will be drooling over it. There are millions of people out there that would buy these for the added security.

I really wished you were right anon, but still, only a rumour.
If I were to upgrade such feature would be probably the best selling point for me personally. Hell I would be ready to accept massive performance hit without hestitation.
When will people stop comparing frame rates and start comparing frame times.
When will losers stop shitposting and just drink some bleach.

Also, there are plenty of webdevs already. That's something surely nobody needs more of.
