I'm going to buy a smart phone for my mother and it'll be with T-Mobile prepaid services but they only have a limited number of phones that do their wifi calling.
She says she thinks she likes the Samsung Galaxy phones so I've narrowed it down to between the S7 and S5.
I expect she'll be keeping this phone for many years to come so longevity is important.
So here's the problem.
S7
>better processor
>more up-to-date version of Android
S5
>removable battery that can be replaced
Should I get her the S5 to ensure the battery can be replaced in a couple years when it's dying? Or should I get her the S7 to ensure the Android version stays more up-to-date and doesn't "age out" sooner?
S5 on 2017?
Do you think that modern phones batteries can't be changed even if it is "non removable"?
Obvious troll..

This is my mother we're talking about. If you think a 60 year old woman is going to take apart a phone to be able to install a new battery, you're wrong.
>>59239494
If she only uses her phone for calls, sms, whatsapp and light stuf like that I think the S5 should be good. If in addition to that she uses apps that are ressource hungry she should take the S7.
Hey /g, I'm have been feeling like I am in a rut staying in my current major of Mechanical Engineering, currently enrolled in community college. Simply put, I am tired of spending most of my time studying for my classes when not at school. I want to know more about the programming industry because I have considered going into computer programming. Pic is my current GPA.

pic related is the only cable internet provider in the area. Since ping, not overall downstream, is the biggest variable affecting online gaming experience, will I notice any difference between the 10 MB/s package and the 250 MB/s package, assuming I'm only running one device at a time?
I feel this company is trying to take advantage of the "ultimate gamer"!
>10MBPS
>10 megabyte per second
Pretty good if you ask me
>>59239771
since it's all caps you can pretty much guarantee it's mbps.
>>59239428
You wont notice a difference in games for ping, you WILL notice a massive difference in downloading updates for you games, downloading new games, watching HD videos, etc.
>>59239793
its mega bits per second actually, 10 mbps is like 1 mb/s, i have 15 mbps and its like 1.6-8 MB/s
In 50 years what will the internet be like

Does anyone here use the BubbleUPnP plugin on foobar2000 to stream music to a device outside the network? I've been fucking around with the settings for quite a while but it just won't work. I've already forwarded the port on my router, and it shows open on every port testing site I try, but I can't still fucking access it through either a web browser, foobar2000 mobile or VLC.
According to the "Internet access" settings, I should be able to listen to the stream throughhttp://<login>:<pass>@<ip>:<port>/content/psc.<ext>
so it looks something likehttp://anon:[email protected]:12345/content/psc.mp3
But I get "connection refused" or "unable to connect" or whatever the fuck else no matter what I try.
Little help?
Anyone?
pls
I tried something like this before, it's a pain in the arse to sort out.
I wish you luck.
My current CPU and GPU;
- R9 280x Toxic OC
- i7 2600k 4.5ghz
Would it be better to upgrade my GPU or CPU first? Was thinking of getting a gtx 1080 now, or buy a CPU and waiting for the gtx 1080ti.
If all I do is gaming, with possible plans to start streaming and recording videos. Would it be better to invest in a ryzen or i7 7700k?
I don't know what to upgrade first and I can't do both right now.
GPU first.
CPU is still good enough for MOST games, though it should be your next upgrade.

Better buy new gpu and wait for the new cpu releases,
Here's the deal, /g/:
I own a PC that I remade myself for gaming purposes, it runs Windows 10. The CPU is an AMD eight-core that's not even five years old. I have a lot of games that I play, but when I try to play the more detailed games my computer inevitably turns off. No warning, no blue screen, it just shuts off quietly. It runs just fine if I'm browsing the internet or playing less graphics-intensive games, however.
I replaced the power supply today, as it was nearly ten years old and loaded with dust. I now have a 100-watt supply installed, leaving the oldest parts of my computer being the side and rear fans. It's running fine now, but when I tried to play vermintide, it shut off without warning and refused to restart three times, finally restarting on the fourth time, after I let it sit for a minute or two.
So my question is: what the hell is keeping my computer from playing things like Fallout 4 and Total War: Warhammer?
>>59238985
>100-watt
1000-watt, sorry.
Just clean the fucking cooler and replace the thermal paste, both on the CPU and the GPU (the GPU is harder to maintain but still easy)
You built it you're supposed to know this is clearly a overheating problem
>>59239018
I'm still kinda new to the building scene, sorry.
Why don't GPUs come with VRAM slots like motherboards come with RAM slots? Why are they built in?
If I had to guess, I'd say VRAM runs hotter than regular RAM so they are usually under a heat spreader, so making VRAM removable would make cards and coolers huge.
>>59238965
So that you have to pay more for the complete package when you buy a new every few years.
>>59238965
they akchooalee do
Does anyone use this? Why?
>>59238830
How else would you get news and website updates?
>>59238830
Before Facebook and social media, it was the only way to "follow" websites.
It still is the fastest and least cancerous and cluttered way to get your news.
I will probably stop using the Internet when RSS will be killed by big IT companies.

Does such a device exist, /g/? I want media controls, but also to use my Model M.
>>59238802
yes, but in round shape
Why not just make some hotkeys?
Write some bash scripts if linux or use autohotkey in windows. Or make yourself a block of mechanical keys.
>>59238872
I'm trying to mod it into a keyboard, so the block of keys may be my only option. It would have been nice if I could just use a premade PCB and controller.
What make and model is this?
Some MSI

Need a cheap mini pc like a Rasp Pi for playing 4k videos off a usb drive
-needs hdmi
-needs to play 1080p/4k h265/h264 content smooth
-under 65$
what should i buy?
would a Rasp Pi 3 work fine?
pic unrelated
Play or stream the 1080p/4k content? Stream, unlikely. Play.. probably.
I heard if you install gentoo all your problems will be solved.
The thing needs a h265 asic that can handle 4k. No manlet $30 processor can handle 4k h265
Why are there so few laptops with AMD chips?
Would it be better to get a laptop with a Core2 or one of the new AMD A-series chips?
>>59238527
Raven Ridge-based laptops will be bretty gud, but Intel will bribe OEMs so you'll never see them.
>>59238527
If you don't need one now just wait for a mobile zen APU.
Low power, faster graphics, better experience.
>>59238527
>Would it be better to get a laptop with a Core2 or one of the new AMD A-series chips?
A-series will do better in most cases
looking for a seedbox, preferably something without bandwidth limits and under 300$ annunally

Runs 24/7 on minimal power with no noise. Unless you want to spend 100s a year this is your best bet. Couldn't be happier.
Where do I get started when I want to create .io games? I'm talking about those "Type in username and play" browser games like Agario. They seem like easy money if advertised correctly.
My problem is. While I know how to do all the client/browser side shit related to UI, graphics and animation. I have no clue how to make it multiplayer or how to set up the server and connect to it via javascript in the browser.
Any resources? I would have googled it if I knew what to google.
install gentoo
Learn how to program network connections and then pick an implemented example in a game and try analyzing that, seeing how your game might fit. Just don't search for javascript tutorials for this.

socket.io -> canvas API (often through P5.js or other such frameworks)
