Is Ubuntu Mate a better alternative to something like OpenELEC or LibreELEC if I want to run Netflix?
Since you can just install chrome in Ubuntu and use Netflix, what does /g/ think?
My HTPC uses an AMD apu btw, no video card. Just integrated graphics.
Pls respond
>>59119012
I suppose? I don't know. If you're just going to use Netflix on it anything that can play video will do fine.
When did /g/ become sharikou.blgspot.com?

I can almost smell the shit and curry.
Hey /g/, what happens if you get thermal paste in your CPU socket?
Can I replace the socket itself or should I clean it out carefully?
Never had this problem with a build before, so I'm pretty lost. Pic related, my motherboard
>>59118397
if its conductive then you will short the pins
if its non conductive you will probably get shitty contact even after cleaning it off
Rinse with mineral oil then gravity drain it (socket down).
Soft+medium bristle brushes.
Problem solved

Why doesn't Adobe use a single code base to share generic features across all of its applications?
>>59118169
it does partially
>>59118180
I want it deeper, beyond UI.
>>59118187
>>59118169
We can't say anything about the code, maybe generic features make single codebase, but it's closed for us.
Not sure if this is the place to go with this but gonna post it anyway. This happened a day or two ago and I have tried everything I can think of (being a fairly technology-related retard). Anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix this?

Go here: https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-you?country=US&version=16.04.2&architecture=amd64
Download the ISO and burn it to a CD. Reboot your computer with the CD in the drive and follow the instructions on the screen. Be sure to select "use entire disk" when it asks.
Once it's done, your pesky Windows problem will be gone for good.

Is there any place that compares load times for the 850 EVO and PROs? Windows boot times, program load times, and game load times? Trying to convince my gaymer friend than a PRO is a waste of money.

Yeah but has anyone done any benchmarks? e.g. opening photoshop, loading a level in doom, or booting the OS?
see, as far as i know when you compile code, it should be completely unambiguous what the computer should do and in what order. It shouldn't matter whether the instructions are being interpreted and executed by an i3 or a Phenom
I mean, as long as the OS (which also should act the same) provides the necessary functions (which also should have a well-defined behavior) then it's all the x86 instruction set underneath, right?
I'm not going to say "redpill me" because that's a stupid phrase, but please do enlighten me
>>59117188
for two-plus decades, advanced CPUs haven't even remotely resembled on the inside what instruction set streams look like on the outside.
superscalar and out-of-order execution, register renaming, speculative branch taking (and unwinding on mis-predicts), etc. mean that processors are just trying to emulate the side effects of whatever the ISA looks like as quickly as possible.
all these tricks are extremely complicated to design in the first place, then the designers have to make sure they haven't inadvertently violated some promise the ISA already made. hardware mistakes ("errata") of varying severity get found all the fucking time, and it should be at least a little terrifying when you think about how much IRL stuff relies on hardware being near infallible.
>>59117336
So basically what you're saying is, the processor takes what the executable says and does whatever the programmer who designed the microcode thinks is the same thing?
I can't help but wonder if there's a less stupid way to do it
>>59117188
what do you mean by hardware?
theres lots of shit that can go wrong
>malloc
overflows of all sorts etc
The more control you have the more can go wrong. Just look at all the shit bad C programmers have caused so far.

>>59116918
Even if we set aside the spying, instability, driver problems, and piss poor support, Windows 10 is the most uncomfy OS out there due to the inconsistent UI and the struggles you have to go through just to remove bloat apps and prevent it from auto updating.
I give it a 2/10 because it actually installs and boots to a desktop (the bare minimum you can expect from an OS in 2016/17). Everything else is total trash. I won't be using it ever again.

Need some suggestions for future upgrades, I was thinking RAM and a better GPU, here's my current build. I don't really do much besides play WoW and stream.

>>59116420
Yeah, I guess I'm just trying to figure out what the biggest upgrades would be, assuming that would be the GPU. If I get a 1080, I'd need a PSU suggestion, and theres also a dozen different versions of the 1080 and I'm not sure if theres any differences. My temperatures are fairly low, CPU never reaches over 37C and GPU doesn't go any higher than 50C. I'm also not very familiar with water cooling at all.
Here's the actual computer, just used a stock case pic in the OP. Definitely want a modular power suppl upgrade.
