They're always priced at 1k each and their performance doesn't seem to justify the cost.

My Qnix QX2710 died (27" 1440p IPS), a MOSFET blew and took a board with it so it can't be saved since those boards aren't used anymore apparently.

I wanted to try one of those spiffy new 27" 1440p IPS 144hz Gsync displays, but I'm reconsidering due to price and AUO making shit panels.

Are there any significantly cheaper 27" 1440p IPS options where I don't need to basically win an RNG lottery in terms of panel issues ?

$500 would be a nice alternative to $800, but I know 144hz Gsync would be AMAZING.

I'm not messing around, I have $300 already, will have the rest soon, so this isn't a bullshit post.

A thin bezel would be nice, but not required.
A stand that isn't cancer would be nice too.

check out the asus mg278qe or something, panel may have some bleed depending on ur luck, but it's super nice for the price.

Looks nice, but I'd be paying for Freesync and I have an Nvidia card.

Checked the BenQ GW2765HT, an average of 34ms of input lag.

That's awful, the Qnix had 1-3 at 60hz.

The X230T, /g/. how durable is it?

For context, my last laptop was a fair mistake in the form of the E530 Edge, but I made it last two and a half years. Is the X230T a real Thinkpad?

>In the early 2000s AMD managed to create an x86 processor architecture which gave Intel’s a swift kick in the branch predictors and propelled them into a position of having a technologically superior product to that of their long-time rivals.

>But having that tech lead wasn’t enough to keep Intel from ruling the roost when it came to getting product into the PCs people actually bought. In 2001 AMD filed a complaint to the European Commission alleging Intel was engaging in dodgy practices to stop their current and potential CPU customers from using AMD chips.

>That was eventually upheld in 2009 with the EC finding Intel in breach of Article 82 of the European Commission Treaty by making alleged “payments to prevent the sales of specific rival products.” The EC imposed a fine of $1.4bn, which at the time - when Intel was back to its silicon dominating best - was kinda like loose change down the back of the sofa to them, but gave a beleaguered AMD a much-needed cash injection.

>While the money helped AMD's cashflow in 2009 the damage to the business, and to the psychology of the company as a whole, was great and is still being felt today.

I'm pretty sure that fine was meant to go to the EU for subsidized laptops.
And I'm certain it hasn't been payed.

>It's upsetting to have to say, but should be said. As an IT Director I have already been approached by an Intel representative to discuss the "special promotions" and "Incentive rebates" that they are willing to offer me for purchasing exclusively Intel powered servers. I was not well received when I explained that I would not be purchasing anything until I see the benchmarks of the new Ryzen (naples) core and compare the cost-to-performance ratio. It was at that point they made it very clear that they would go to great lengths from a financial standpoint to incentivize me to NOT purchase AMD chips.

>These are the tactics that were used back in the day that AMD had feared would be used again. Intel offered "loyalty rebates" and other clever promotions to hide the fact that they were paying customers to lock out the competition. I sincerely hope that other IT Directors and all in IT in general do what's best for the industry and choose based off of what's best for the consumer and their environment. The rebates are nice and all, but if we continue to hurt AMD for a small rebate, we destroy AMD's ability to compete and enable Intel to continue their "Tick-Tock" releases and oppressive pricing.

>Be aware folks, Intel is scared and is already looking to use their weight and $'s to NOT out innovate, but to obstruct competitions ability to enter the marketplace. Why else would they be contacting and attempting to "Incentivize" customers well before the launch of AMD's server chips in Q2-Q3?

>Sorry for the rant, but these past few years from Intel have been terrible from a pricing and tech innovation standpoint. I would hate to see AMD get the shaft after building such a great product over the last 5 years with the help of Jim Keller and AMD architect Mike Clark. They did such a great job turning the CPU division around it should have the ability to be judged on its own merits and not locked out by Intel to prolong the CPU stagnation in the market.

Hello /g/uys. Now I've never really had a problem before with companies and slow internet until now. The person that I live with decided to change our internet service from decent enough FIOS to a much shittier and slower XFINITY. I was not really complaining too much with the internet which is 75Mbps (I've dealt with worse), but just two days ago they started throttling our internet and now I'm only getting 3Mbps down and 6Mbps up where I was getting 20 down and 15 up which I wasn't too mad about because I'm wireless.

Now I've never gotten into VPN's as I've never really needed them, but as I read it supposedly a VPN can help stop the ridiculous throttling issue that I'm dealing with. So I am here to ask for assistance in finding a decent VPN that I don't have to pay for because I've got no money left out of my paychecks to spend on subscription fees.

Yes I've Googled, Bing'd, Yahoo'd, and DuckDuckGo'd on my own, but I've no idea what to look for.... could at least one of you fine people assist me, please?

In return I give you my screenshot of a scene from Disney's Hercules that I accidentally paused.

vpn won't fix anything. the data packets are still going through the isp and they a are counting those. so you'll go over the limit anyways. only fix is to get your own connection through a different service.

I still have mine. I have to waste four AA batteries just to record the full hour, and copying the files takes half a day. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to use that male USB dick that feels like it's going to break every time you use it by either leveling it with magazines or forcing on a tight female to male cable. Why can't it just be a female mini or micro port? It's like what were they thinking!?

To make things worse mine has had a dead pixel since day one.

Sure, I can do it in a couple of lines:

CMD = CreateObject("wscript.shell")
CMD.run("git pull https://github.com/torvalds/linux.git")

Boom. Now you have the linux kernel, rewritten using visual basic.

Does anyone own or use some device related to quantum cryptography?
Why are there only a few companied that produce such hardware for commercial use?
Why is Quantum Key Distribution still an academic thing?
Does Apple have to start using it for the world to catch up?

Let's talk about quantum computing.

I imagine the answers to most of your questions is because it's all still in the research phase. China, according to ACM, is going fucking hard with quantum technologies and supercomputers in general. It seems like it would be a very exciting time to be a scientist/engineer there.
That's about all I can contribute to the conversation, OP, sorry.

OP, you seem to be misinformed on the current potential of quantum computation. Firstly, quantum computers are immensely difficult to engineer, and there is much debate on whether current quantum computers actually harness the power if information superposition. For these reasons, quantum computation theory is mostly an academic endeavor, although this may change, as China, the US, and Russia are trying to 'beat' each other to quantum computing.

Although, it was recently leaked (within a few years ago) that the NSA had allocated nearly $80B in R&D money for quantum cryptography. Enter: Peter Shor. Shor's algorithm proved that very large biprimes could be factored in a reasonable amount of time using quantum computation, thus rendering modern cryptography ineffective against such a computer. However, the idea of quantum computing really started materializing in the 80's, and Shor proved his algorithm sometime in the 90's, IIRC, so we are still in a technological standstill. Not much has changed since then, and developments are very slow.
>>
>>59123482
You're talking about completely different things.

QKD is still an academic thing because it's only a set of measures to detect taps on physical (fibre) links - however though it's "theoretically" able to detect a splice, in practice actually none of the techniques do. They've all been broken one way or another. I'd say it was destined to remain academic but China are testing it in the field, because why not? You can always use it on top of something else, and it's fine when composed correctly.

Quantum computers are currently able to factor 6. They think maybe in a few years they might be able to factor 15. Wow. Throwing money at it isn't necessarily going to fix the fundamental entanglement problems. We're not talking 5 years here. Maybe another 20? The point is we want our cryptosystems to last past that, so we need to be looking at resistant alternatives now.

We have a fair bit of so-called "post-quantum" cryptography that doesn't rely on the difficulty of factoring or discrete logarithms - SIDH, lattice-based systems like NTRU, ring-LWE systems like NewHope and so on. Research is still very actively ongoing. Nearly all symmetric crypto will be fine (with a few things that might fall in theory to QPF), but we might need to make sure people are using 256-bit keys (technically hashes can be cube-rooted, but that needs so many resources that a time/memory tradeoff on a classical computer beats it).

can i connect a subwoofer to the speakon port and then use the binding post to connect to my old sony receiver? the receiver doesn't have a subout port and only A+B port for bare wire.

Is your subwoofer powered, and if so, does it have high level inputs?
>>
>>59124140
no. i want to build a passive amp and use that crown to power it. so damn hard to find an external powerful amp with high level inputs. want to build 12" ultimax sub
>>
>>59124274
There's no such thing as a passive amp. You can buy a line level converter to use as a source, or you could possibly try to split the output of your audio source. Your sony receiver might have some kind of signal output for an external amp.

IMO, not really.
It's a really good second or third distro, after you've gotten your feet wet and know how to go about solving problems.
You really can't be afraid of the cli or editing config files, though it does hold your hand a little bit more in those things than some other distros.
