That's kinda expensive.
What feature do you need in that router that you don't find in regular router ?

Not that guy, but a proper router should support things like VLANs and enough power to run some Squid and maybe ntopng.

So there's some discussions around where normies complain that apps takes up too much RAM and never frees it. "Experts" claims to be programmers and know about memory management and shit, and always repeats "it's better to use memory for performance than not using it", "modern memory management is very smart", etc.

That's all fine and dandy. HOWEVER; in Linux Everything starts to be slow as shit when there is little RAM left, even with swappines set to low values. If for example Firefox is using a lot of RAM and I close all the tabs, the memory is not freed. According to "experts", freeing this memory would be a waste. When I restart Firefox, all the unused RAM is of course freed, and everyting else suddenly feels a lot faster.

Inb4 Firefox is to blame, the arguments from the memory management export crowd is always the same, also when the memory hog is aother software.

Can /g/ please shed some light on this?

See the comment threads at http://superuser.com/questions/789548/why-does-my-firefox-memory-usage-keep-rising-with-use-and-never-returns-to-the-i for an example on this.
>>
>>59247153
Obviously things get slow when you run out of memory and rely on swap.
Nothing can prevent that.

Most algorithms have the tradeoff with computations and memory.
And often this means using a bit more memory is preferred over taking more time.

Firefox is a special case for software as it is an operating system in user space.
It uses a lot of resources and they don't aim to fix that.

Hey I'm currently looking for a cloud service provider to host proxies on. I'm specifically looking for providers to improve latency and have cheap hourly options for servers.

ALSO, if you know how to work with proxies on linux let me know since I've got some questions on improvements.

Thanks guis :3

Are you doing a large scale? Few hundred few thousand?

Thanks for the reply.
I'm making them for dev puposes and also providing them to people for whatever use on a large scale; 100s and sometimes 1000+ at a time.

You could buy some /24 blocks and setup squid on your server. I did it for one block/server and it was ez.

I noticed that Ocaml is extremely lacking in libraries. What is the purpose of this language at all. Is Haskell better to learn?

They're both pretty useless

If you need libraries you can just make wrapper to existing C libraries.
If you need something that compiles with only sepples compiler you need to first make c wrapper for that and then wrap that into ocaml.
You could also use swig or make your own program to generate those wrappers.

Depending on your need ocaml might already have library for it or you could make one yourself.

I don't get it. Why I can't find a single LGA2011-v3 mobo for my 6900K that has good reviews online?

I just checked Amazon.com too, and they are almost all below 4 stars.

What do?

btw 6900K is being purchased at less than half the price. So AMDfanboys, BTFO.

If you consider TempleOS an operating system, then you're not following RMS and the FSF's retarded definition that "an OS is an OS plus tools" (because TempleOS doesn't have a full POSIX toolchain), therefore you shouldn't be using the autistic term "GNU/Linux".

cpus are compact. gpus are stupidly big. why dont mobile gpus become the de facto desktop gpu?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>59245825

only gaymen man children buy these consumerist meme gpus

if you REALLY NEED a gpu you buy a CUDA .. thats when you have an ACTUAL NEED for it and no gaming garbage

integrated intel HD graphics are more than enough for every day use
>>
>>59245825
Because mobile GPUs are kinda shit. NVidia stopped making a dedicated mobile line but their GPUs put into laptops are still downgrades of their desktop counterparts in most cases and in the cases they aren't they have ridiculously huge cooling making the laptops far less portable as a result.

We put up with big graphics cards because they produce a fuckton of heat, both the GPU itself and the power rails for the GPU, that needs dealing with. CPUs are pretty tame in comparison.
