All things storage, from SSD to HDD and everything in between.

To kick things off does anyone have any experiance with those enterprise grade refurb disks I see on Amazon?

I'm rolling out a NAS and also need some mechanical mass storage in my desktop and I'm wondering if these things are worthy of consideration.

Yeah I plan on running these things in RAID1so I can handle a bit of failure considering the cost. I just wanted some perspective from anyone that might have taken the plunge with these as opposed to random Amazon reviews.

And to be honest I've had a string of failures in the first year on brand new drives. I'm super wary about putting much money up but I need a place to store raw video and mid/long term storage of photos photos.

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Yes. You're over the hill. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. Learning new skills is a young person's game. It's not even worth trying for someone like you. In fact, why are you even asking? You're old. Worn out. Just give up. Live isn't even worth living anymore.

Did I fall for the VPN meme?
>don't want 100% connection to be under different IP
>only want browser (with website whitelist), torrents & IRC protected
>use socks5 proxy
>barely works for anything half the time and super slow
>only everything works flawlessly with VPN provider's software client but can't pick and choose which individual programs to protect

Is this a problem with socks5 technology, or the VPN provider's fault that their proxies barely works unless you use their client?

Hey /g/.
I was dreading the day Windows 10 would break on me again and that day has come. Today Windows installed an update without asking me a thing (I'm now on build 15048 - Windows 10 Education Evaluation copy) and start menu has stopped working ever since. I have no system backups apparently and already tried reinstalling Windows apps on Powershell to no avail.

Right now I'm trying sfc /scannow to see if that can save me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Follow the next steps:

>Format an USB drive
>Put Windows 7, 8.1, a Linux distro, or hackintosh on it
>Format your system drive
>Install one of these operating systems

Trust me, that will fix your problem

/g/, I already tried googling it but i got no answers. We had a printer hooked up directly to an computer via ethernet and the computer wasn't connected to the internet. But all night last night, every 5 minutes or so our printer would print two pages. On the first "HELP". On the second "ME". It spooked the most of us and stopped halfway through the night then one of us went over to check if it stopped then it printed 15 copies of the message in succession. I wish I could've taken a pic but we aren't allowed to have our cells in the building. Is this a common help message of the printer trying to troubleshoot itself or should we call an exorcist.
TLDR: Our printer is haunted.
