/g/ Redpill General: if you use anything other than a Macbook at school you won't have any friends, and then you won't make any connections, and you'll end up in retail paying down student loans for the rest of your twenties

Redpill for Applefans: You are not special. At all. And neither are any Apple products.
I'm running out of space on my 3GB HDD and I'm debating whether I should just buy another HDD or burn crap onto BD-R media. I don't have a BD-R writer so I'd have to spend $50-60 on one.
Is there a point in using BD-R when HDDs are kinda cheap now? Do you still burn shit in 2017, anon?
>Is there a point in using BD-R when HDDs are kinda cheap now? Do you still burn shit in 2017, anon?
I rarely burn stuff, and when I do its usually to give some stuff away (audio book was the last thing) because I don't want to chase people for my USB drive.
cost per gigabyte an HDD will be the cheaper option.
Just get an external/internal drive and call it a day, 5TB drives occasionally go on sale for ~100
If you are truely looking at data hoarding why no consider a NAS , you can build one yourself or buy something.
>>59354992
Great point anon. So, is BD-R dead?
That's a ridiculously dumb idea.
Optical media is dead as fuck.

What's the last version of the OS that will actually run properly on my current machine? Bout to sell this piece of shit and get something else. Lags all the time, click on an icon in the dock and it stops for 3-4 seconds before it does the next step, how are Apple still making money when their shit just seems to suck?
>>59358883

Well there's your problem.
Apple has always sucks but marked a "lifestyle" to retards.

Holy shit Apple btfo.
Now if you're not shitposting, then you're HDD is probably fucked, also Sierra runs better on SSD's, so I would install Mavericks if you really wanna keep the HDD.
Check the hard drive health, it's probably it.
do you think it's ironic how the distro everyone was saying is for noobs has now become the objectively most stable and most complete distro?
>>59358325
not really
I think you don't understand irony
more stability & completeness == easier to use == better for noobs
ur ritardit
>>59358325
I don't know if you've noticed anon, but all distros are very stable these days. Arch hardly, if ever breaks, Debian sid even is totally fine for me, and Ubuntu is just benefiting from the same same stable upstream as everyone else.

Just migrated to Chrome. It's impressive how fast it is. Goodbye, Firecucks.
>but le botnet
Read the news. The CIA can spy on everyone regardless of what programs you use.
>but let evil Google
Google just wants to show me ads and make me click on them. I don't even see them thanks to adblockers.
>but let customization and extensions
That's exactly why I moved to Chrome now. Firecucks has dropped or is dropping soon all features that mattered to me.
>>59357799
Nice Blog.
>>59357799
Anon, just use Comodo.
It's literally Chrome but without the botnet and a slightly different design, PLUS- the CIA in the vault 7 leaks mentioned that Comodo's security was a PITA (Pain in the ass) and considering it's the CIA, that means a lot to how good Comodo is.
Don't bow down to Google and their jewish botnet.

They harvest your intimate interaction with their software on a very low level. Fuck that shit I don't need someone seeing how long I hover my mouse, when I click and where I go.

Your goal is to make KDE the most popular Linux desktop environment. What do you do?
>>59357722
Easy.
Hire some competent UX designers, sane defaults and ensure that all default KDE applications follow a HIG.
install gentoo
>>59357722
Make it stop crashing so often
Make a guideline of UI rules and make everything follow them
Stop focusing on the abortion of a distro known as KDE neon
Make it much more lighter
Anything to say to someone who just signed up to get a degree in Computer Science? What should I know? What should I expect? Am I boned if I don't know how to program yet?
Know everything.
Expect nothing.
Enjoy a boring lonely life of essentially doing what you are doing now except you get a bit of money for it.

Let's have a thread about how 4chan works.
It doesn't.
there are multiple filtered words on 4chan which change into different phrases.

etc

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

this is just a test my dude. They know you are a student but ofc their ideal candidate can do everyhting already.
Keep in mind - HR departments are fucking stupid and have no clue what they are doing.
They will never reject you cause of a lack of experience (as a student) - never ever. This is just a meme spouted by people who got rejected cause their applications are shit.
Just put in effort and display what you actually can do and have learned to stand out in between all the other neet student fucks with no experience that apply.

what's the difference between a programmer and a computer scientist
How did the whole CRF scaling between H264 and HEVC turn out? Last I heard they were not equal, has that changed?

if a router claims to have 1000base-t WAN and LAN ports, I should be able to get 1gbps of data over the wired connection, right? i have fibre broadband and I don't want to drop money on a wifi router just to throttle my wired speed. I already made that mistake once
i've tried looking up benchmarks but obviously everybody focuses on the wifi performance not the LAN performance
