Literally explain yourselves AMD and linux fags. How hard is implementing sound in Linux that no one has been able to successfully do it in years? Is the AMD house of cards starting to fall down?

So how's windows 7 holding up in 2017 /g/?
I want to install it but i heard it wont update anymore. Is this true?
Who the fuck needs updates??
>>59373008
It gets updates, they're just downloaded slower. You should just install anti beacon and prevent updates anyway. I use it in addition to Ubuntu, and it's just as good as it was years ago, assuming you don't get a meme edition (home). You will actually have no problems using it once you install the necessary drivers for your GPU and ethernet (since w7 comes with no drivers). But this is simple download and install done in 5 minutes.
>>59373008
It will get updates until 2019.
are seagate failures just a meme?
Still on a 2010 Seagate drive I got secondhand.

Avoid 2 and 3TB models and you'll be fine.

Maybe I'm just retarded but can we discuss how this is possible for them to sell at such a low price. It would literally be more expensive for me to build this thing never mind buying it from some other websites. This is just one of many.
>>59372733
Maybe they got a good deal when they bought in bulk?
>>59372766
Probably but if that's the case they must buy a lot of bulk because they have a large selection of pretty good pcs for only £400+. If that's true then it just goes to show how much sites like pc specialist are ripping you off.
>>59372805
Okay most likely good bulk deal on the cpus and gpus then using no name ram, psu, and/or motherboard
why is it allowed? Jesus...
>>59372687
No worse then the RGB everything.
Haha yeah, I totally don't think that looks kind of cool or anything.

Whats the best way to learn to program from scratch, with no prior knowledge?
First, you'll need some programming socks
Obviously, you should start at the "bottom", and work your way up.
First, you will need to understand some physics, then transistor logic, then digital logic, then CPU state machine design, microcode, machine code, assembly code, then you can move onto a programming language like C.
By choping your dick off?
What's your opinion about Void Linux?
http://www.voidlinux.eu
>Void Linux is an independent distribution, developed entirely by volunteers.
>Unlike trillions of other existing distros, Void is not a modification of an existing distribution. Void's package manager and build system have been written from scratch.
>Rolling release
no systemd
>We use runit as the init system and service supervisor.
>xbps-src is the xbps package builder, written from scratch with a 2-clause BSD license.
>This builds the software in containers through the use of Linux namespaces, providing isolation of processes and bind mounts (among others). No root required!
Additionally xbps-src can build natively or cross compile for the target machine, and supports multiple C libraries (glibc and musl currently).
Sounds like Arch mixed with Gentoo, why don't you use it then?

Programming sans I/O.
>>59371769
>the communication between an information processing system, such as a computer, and another information processing system
yes, that is i/o you fucking retard
I'll repeat: compiling in itself is i/o
>>59371786
truly this.
>>59371808
>the communication between an information processing system, such as a computer, and another information processing system
Yes, the computer itself performs I/O. This doesn't mean that the language has any notion of I/O.
>compiling in itself is i/o
No, you retard. A compiler is simply something which maps source code to a program, there is literally nothing here which requires I/O.
If most implementations of compilers use I/O it does not somehow mean that a compiler is inherently tied to I/O.
Please help me find an idea for an IT-startup.

Why do GPUs have a short life span? Do they make them faulty on purpose due to planned and intrinsic obsolescence?
Whenever I have a laptop with an AMD or Nvidia GPU with no screen output, I've always managed to fix it by covering the fan vent with a towel and let it overheat till it shuts down. Then when I turn it on, the screen works. Where is this solder located in the GPU and why is it such a common problem for laptops?
>>59371272
High voltages and temperatures sustained over a long period of time, and rapid temp fluctuations.
I held on to my last three GPU's for 4 years each. Sure they got worse as they aged, but they didn't fail totally and they were replaced with much better GPU's.
>>59371409
What did they change in modern GPU design that makes them die so quickly? I still have a GeForce 4 and an ATI Rage 128 that are working and I've used them longer than my GeForce 6600GT and Radeon 4830 that died in just a few years.
