I know you guys like refurbished laptops for being a great value, but what about desktops? Is it a good idea to buy them as well? Where does Dell get their refurbished desktops from? Are they mostly functioning models that people returned, or were they broken and fixed by Dell? I tried to make an apples to apples comparison, and it seems like refurbished desktops, at least this model, are cheaper than building an equivalently specced one.

I know /g is not tech support, but I have peculiar problem I can't find anything related about, so I need some directions or advice from gentlemen.

So my laptop with optimus gpu (bumblebee) is allways running @ x4 pci-e lane width.

Both nvidia-settings and lspci show link cap x16 and link status x4 no matter how much gpu is loaded. I've tried everything that I could think of; drivers (nouveau), x settings (don't see how that could be related to pci-e width), kernel (powermanagment, different kernels). Only thing thats left imho is to install windows to check if problem persist. I kind of hope it does so I can return this shit and ask for new one. Need second opinnion here people.

>>
At lot of those professionals are video game designers desu. Plus the PS4 and Xbone count for semi custom.
>>
Enterprise crap is always more expensive than Consumer, even Enthusiast crap. And when companies buy Enterprise level crap, they usually buy in bulk. Render farms especially.

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap & visually pleasing monitor?

I have to say, for a Microsoft product, the surface pro really isn't half bad. Took the risk and bought it for school around November last year instead of a cheaper traditional laptop and I have no regrets. Only got the base 3m processor 4GB ram model but I only bought it for note taking and basic use when I'm not at home.

>Pros:
+light as fuck but has a solid quality feel
+keyboard feels good despite looking initially like garbage
+Screen is gorgeous
+touch is responsive
+can sign in by looking at the camera, even in the dark. (doing so gives MS full rights to your likeness)
+good battery life
+works well with onenote if you have the pen
+MicroSD slot for storage if you need it

>Cons
-because of the retarded display resolution for such a small screen (12.3 inches 2736x1824 (267ppi)) UI scaling can be garbage for some programs
-pen is 50 fucking dollars
-pen attaches to the computer with a magnet which barely works causing me to lose my 50 fucking dollar pen
-because I bought the base model, onenote chugs when I try to click and drag stuff around
-accessories specifically intended for the surface are very expensive
-only 1 USB 3.0

>Meh
~the way the power cable connects bothers me sometimes
~doesn't sit well on your lap; need a solid surface
~its win10
~very little, but very fast, internal storage

Just stumbled upon this. Is this a new "feature" or has it always been like that? Github repository members can EDIT PEOPLE'S WORDS at their will. The only visual cue for that is the same boring gray "edited" that appears when you edit the post yourself, and there's no way for us to see the original post and what was taken out/added in.

This specific example I found is harmless, but knowing Github (one of the first relevant tech companies to hire pink-haired landwhales to censor stuff), it's obvious why that option is there.

The Stack sites have the same capabilities. e.g. Stack Overflow, etc
>>
To be fair removing the credentials of people to prevent personal attacks and shit like that isn't a bad use for that. It's also clearly marked as edited.
>>
>>59399448
Stackexchange is basically a technical questions and answers wiki. It's different from editing Github issues because people are often invited to post their complaints, opinions, suggestions and other subjective things there.

>>59399496
It's clearly marked as edited the same way as when you edit the post yourself. How often have hovered that word to see who edited it?

gonna call it now: government "code auditing" of all software in the near future.

>>
gonna call it now: no one has the time or money for that shit

The government doesn't have the manpower to look at the source code for everything. I'm pretty sure they'll stick to what they're currently doing for a while, collecting everybody's meta data because it's the most efficient way of tracking people, and installing backdoors in the most widely used software.

Please comrades, could you give me some example on how to address the WIndows OS?

Sentences involving faggotry, botnets, trojans and/or viruses are optimal.

This should be used as a handy collection of metaphors for everyday use.

Is using Nightly a meme?
20 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>59399094
Using bleeding-edge anything is a meme, unless you're one of the devs responsible for building and testing it.
>>
>>59399094
No, but it can be a hassle. If you find a broken build (broken as in certain feature that you use, not working as expected) you'd have to revert back, and try again after a week or so. It's fine, I have it portable and I only had to do this a couple of times in the past five years or so, but I still prefer to use stable x64 as my main browser.
>>
It's alright. Crashing has been very rare for me, every couple months at most, and whenever it happens I just roll back to the previous nightly until another update comes out that always fixes it. Performance is iffy, I'd say 9 times out of 10 Nightly feels lighter but sometimes an update rolls out that makes it feel bloated and sluggish. Them's the breaks, know the risks. Some useful and fully functional stuff like audio playing and container tabs stay on Nightly for a long time before making it to the stable channel, I dunno how long they take to make it to beta though. Others like e10s are more obvious about being works in progress, but you can always opt out of using them. The developer/"compact" theme is also bretty good.
