Does encryption kill performance? I have 4 devices I am planning on encrypting. A Google nexus 10 tabled (already did the encryption). A Samsung galaxy note 5 (about to do the encryption). A windows 7 hp laptop and a 17.5 inch windows 10 hp omen.
Should I expect to see major issues with any of these things? I use the tablet just for comics, the windows 7 laptop is my normal laptop and the omen I've only used for steam games so far because I am not super big on windows 10

Would you say, (based on your feedback) this is a fair TL:DR to entering the Programming Industry?
1. Learn more Python, then Java
2. Take some beginners Comp Sci courses on Coursera/edX
3. Actually get good at Python/Java
4. Start learning C++
5. Wipe my ass with my Toilet Paper diploma and look for a job

Now that Ryzen is exposed and already dead we can continue to use superb Intel CPUs.
I can't wait to spend $250 on a new midrange CPU and $200 on a new motherboard just to enjoy a small incremental upgrade over a midrange CPU released 5 years ago!

Does anyone on /g/ have experience with soldering new switches onto a mouse? Can you detail your experience with the procedure if so? I'm interested in putting these newer Omron switches into my old WMO 1.1a.
the real question here is 'why'
>>59486181
you just need to buy a new one just straighen out the long metal piece when you open it up

>buying a mouse so expensive that it's actually cheaper to repair it rather than buying a new one

Which is better out of Go or Rust?
Rust. Garbage collectors have no place in systems languages. RAII is GOAT.
What are you trying to do?

neither they are both terrible languages B)
In a kinda feelsbadman state at the moment.
I help admin a few pages on Facebook, one of which really blew up, to the point where we gathered 790k likes in under half a year. It was a lot of fun, but inevitably the Zucc struck us.
We've moved to the backup, which has just hit 100k, but it just doesn't feel as good anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy posting, but losing so many fans hit us all pretty hard. Hitting 100k again made me realise it disappointed me more than I first thought.
But what about you guys? Have you ever dealt with a big loss community wise? Kinda suckish imo, probably the best way to describe it. It's not like a big hit, but it kinda just drains the fun and energy out of running the page.
Oh well, hmu with your stories if you've got anything similar. Conquer sadness with sadness, you know how it is. /shrug

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

I need a new keyboard for my T420. They are a whole lot cheaper in non US layout.
My question is, can I buy a foreign language keyboard and snap on US keys? As long as my comp is set to US it shouldn't make a difference right?
Ey, I'm unbanned.
Where can I find the non-s LVDS to eDP converters for the T420 1080p IPS mod? Are the gooks done producing them? Are there still 3rd party sellers?
I got a server mostly for seedbox purposes but I was thinking about using it for plex + a tablet to watch stuff on bed and I'm curious
This shit is supposed to be played from a web browser to avoid the paid version, right?
Since this shit transcode the video to your device and serve it in a motherfucking web, do you lose quality doing it?
No , depends on ur upload internet speed, so if u only jave like 2mb upload n ur family is streaming netflix plus ur lil bro is playing league ur going to get sht quality if the video even plays
>>59486050
I have 1GB internet so that will not be a issue I guess
>>59485935
I use a spare optiplex I had laying around as a Plex server and it works wonders, I highly recommend it. Okay now that my unpaid shill is over to answer your question I haven't had any problems with quality.

Ubuntuist here. VLC is my universal media player. It plays everything, has classic, simple, plain interface. My pick, also back in the past on Windows, with the difference that I used foobar2000 for audio files.
