DOA technology? You betcha. So much for the faggots who thought Intel's Optane was going to be revolutionary. Intel has walked back everything they originally said about Optane/3D Xpoint, and now it's looking like not much of an improvement over Samsung's NVMe, especially when you consider the $1500 pricetag.

Did you fall for Intel's bullshit about solid state storage as fast as DDR4 RAM?

Alright /g/ I'm fucking tired of this shit.

I need a modem and router that don't fucking shit the bed every god damn day and require a hard reset every fucking 12 fucking hours. I'm so sick of this bullshit. I've been putting up with this shit since my entire fucking life (first in my parent's house, and then since living on my own)

What fucking modem and router do I need to buy so I don't need to reset the fucking things every fucking day? I want them to just work. Just fucking work, and keep working, and not stop working.

Buy a $100+ Asus router. It'll be better than the piece of shit your ISP gave you.

Journald is basically trash. I don't care about most of the little things it gobbles up in its unstoppable rampage but the journald system is insane. It can have udevd and the init system is perfectly adequate.

Yeah he was right

except unfortunately computing and technology (largely the technology he helped create) have destroyed everyone's attention spans and have made them incapable of thinking for longer than three seconds about anything

oops

also there's no evidence of Steve ever programming, but the sentiment sounds good

Hey /g, i never used any Linux distribution until now. Just tried Ubuntu when I was a kid but couldn't stand to type a password every 2 seconds so I dropped it. The most comparable thing I can think of when it comes to distributions are Android Roms. I have always loved CyanogenMod ones. Is there something as comfy and not stressful for the battery I can use on a laptop?

Also if you got any recent laptop+Linux combo you know would be nice give me some suggestions :)

>>59504694
Try GNOME Ubuntu, it's a bit on the heavier side so I'll need some specs before I can fully recommend it but it's the easiest DE/Distro combo that'll give you that comfy feeling.
>>
>>59504694
>hate to type a password every two seconds

s... sorry anon, maybe laptops aren't for you, these are mainly for people who don't mind typing
>>
>>59504694
I've never tried it but wattOS is supposed to be a very energy efficient distro. If you're going for maximum comfy and ease of use, Debian and OpenSUSE are good, as are certain Ubuntu flavors. For hardware, buy a ThinkPad. They really do work the best with GNU/Linux. You can install Linux on Macs but they force hybrid MBR causing severe instability, so avoid those. I use OpenSUSE KDE on a ThinkPad T420 and it's pretty good. If you need insane battery life, buy an X220 and get a battery slice thingy. For both the X220 and T420, they're super easy to take apart and service, and if you don't find a distro you like you can install Windows or Mac OS on them easily.

I'm looking to rent a vps to run a small game server and maybe a small teamspeak/mumble. I want it just to play with friends. I'm interested mostly in classic games like quake, quake 3 arena or unreal tournament 2k4 or similar games for maximum 10 players... Of the newer ones maybe Reflex, Killing Floor and UT3 would be nice if they worked but not really necessary.

What kind of specs would be good considering I want to stay cheap? I found one really cheap with these specs 40GB SSD, 1GB RAM, 100Mb/s and Intel Xeon E7-4870 processors (could bump to 2 processors or 2GB of RAM and still be pretty cheap). Would that be good enough?

>>
>>59504676
Never hosted game servers but you probably need to figure out your spec needs first, ez way to to this could be to try and get the server running on local vms first to at least see how much ram you would need
>>
Check reviews on the company. Some of them offering really cheap deals are actually overselling and you end up with a sub par experience. Look up the deals with lowendbox.com. I am with ssdnodes and they are solid.
>>
>>59504676
Mate VPS means Virtual Private Server

As in they take a box then run a dozen different tasks off it, partitioning it so everyone gets X resources.

By one processor that means you get a single core of that E7-4870
