Guy who bought one of the first R5 1600s, is having issues overclocking (3.9GHz crashes) and RAM isn't going past 2133MHz.
Appears to be with MSI Tomahawk B350 motherboard.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/617dkc/happy_with_my_new_build_with_ryzen_r5/
Thoughts? Is this a sign of issues across most R5s or do you think it will be resolved?
Hasn't been officially released yet I'm sure there are some bios updates when it does
You have to go back.

welp
When will the text editor build on top of a web browser engine meme die?
It's fucking bullshit that a computer as good as mine takes about 10-20 seconds to start up Atom.
>>59581640
sounds like user error
VS code works fine for me
This is the future now.
Applications programming is dead now that you can write your web app once and have it work on all platforms through the web browser.

Vim, even with plugins, takes milliseconds to start.

hi /g/
have any of you ever tried using an eGPU? i want to use one for video editing when i am on the go. the x220 has a shit display, but it's all I have to work with. sony vegas isn't too bad to work with, but the render times take fucking forever.
>i5 2540m
anyhow, I know it can be done with the x220 via expresscard. any experiences? tips?
eGPU? Enlighten me
tried using egpu with the express card slot.
very hard to find a card that will work with it.
not sure how you would go with USB 3.0 version of it though

There are plenty of tutorials for Thinkpads. It's very doable
Guys, Perl is the best language. Look deep into your heart. You know it to be true. Pic related; it's the greatest technical manual ever published.
I like Perl but its not that stable for certain for writing irc bots and uploading them in shells
>>59581572
>tfw I've always wanted to learn Perl for the last 5 years, but every time I start, I get distracted with something else
Is there hope for me?
>>59581572
Perl 6 comes out too late.
Would like to format my drives and run GNU/Linux.
The best experience I had doing this was Fedora, but eventually that didn't boot.
I always have to add nomodeset to the boot options before install, dedicated nvidia card (gtx 970). Is there a single GNU/Linux release that
>just werks?
What's the best distribution to install and actually use on a desktop?
Pic related, it's my current NSA OS
install macOS
Either install ubuntu and learn at your own pace or go fully in and learn how it all works. In that case I would recommend arch linux, or something else starting without a gui. I would suggest centos or fedora for that. Install and test risky stuff on a virtual machine and use what is stable and works on your real machine

nouveau does kms, i assume the proprietary driver does as well but that's not the distro's problem
Other than maintaining legacy banking system and US ballistic missile system, what are other practical use of floppy disks?
Also, no, muh "vintage gaymen and shiet" is not a practical use of floppy disks

I'm at my wit's end. I bought this tv to watch bluray rips. I have the hdmi lead hooked from my gt610 to my hdmi1 port on my tv. the tv says the image is at 1080p but it's not its upscaled 720p. I just updated my drivers and same shit.
This is the tv I bought.
https://www.vizio.com/e40d0.html
It's a 1080p screen, only hdmi and no vga or dvi. Am I missing something here?
>>59581182
Go into Nvidia drivers. I think you can set it there. Been a while since I had Nvidia, though.
>>59581217
Well I uninstalled the drivers and did a clean install of the newest drivers. Still the same. I'm going to try to downgrade to win7 and see what happens.
>>59581455
scrap that I'm just going to use mint on a usb stick first
How much have you paid to Ubuntu?
If you haven't, you are not allowed to use it.

Everyone should donate to this worthy cause. Your money will help Ubuntu maintain its position as the #1 GNU/Linux distribution.

First for Freedom.
REMOVE GNU FROM THE OP
Gnu project is irrelevant and does more harm than good nowadays
>>59580984
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you proprietary slave? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class at Harvard, and I’ve been involved in numerous free software projects, and I have contributed to over 300 core-utils for GNU. I am skilled in Lisp and I’m St. IGNU-cius, saint of the Church of Emacs. You are nothing to me but just another unethical non-free software advocate. I will distribute the fuck out of your source code with freedom the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit about me and the GPL on the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my colleagues at FSF and your binaries are being reversed engineered right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your copyright. You're fucking dead, kid. Free software can be anywhere, anytime, and it can ensure your freedom in over four ways, and that’s just with the GPLv2. Not only am I extensively skilled at hacking, but I have access to the source of the entire GNU userland and core-utils and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable proprietary code off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what ethical retribution your little “clever” program was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have ensured your users' freedom. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit free as in freedom all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
Loonix old timer here
I abandoned when unity, gnome shell and systemd started to fuck up my experience
My question is: is the desktop and services identity crisis finally resolved? Is it a sane moment to come back?
I would really like to use a linux desktop as my daily driver again

Aqua is the best DE ;)

I'm trying to dual boot linux with windows 10, but the installation keeps failing and I can not figure out the issue. If i install my iso on a virtual machine it works, so it's not the iso itself. But when i try to dual boot it from usb the installer crashes at the installation of the grub2 package. I have tried everything I can find online.
Is there anyone who had this issue and was able to resolve it?

>>59580866
could be a legit problem with efi
use it in a vm. dual booting is a meme with modern hardware. not only is it completely pointless but it's also a pain in the ass even when it works seamlessly.
