What does /g/ think of good ol' COBOL?
>>59632169
Harder to compile than to write it tbqh...
>>59632169
i think it's an anagram of BOLOC
>>59632169
I do not like COBOL one bit. The massive pay scale for COBOL programmers must be to offset the suicidal thoughts it brings.
Any ideas for an iOS 11 hoax?
>>59628571
By moving a powerful magnet over an iPhone 8, you can charge it without a magnetic charger. Thus people will erase their iPhones with magnets.
>>59628571
Android

Water and microwave have already been done, so unless theres a critical bug that we could trick people into causing then we will need to come up with a new "feature" of iOS 11

What is the best Nvidia GTX 1070 GPU, /g/?
My trusty 280x has been chugging along for some time now, and I really want to upgrade. I can't however, justify the price tags for 1080/Ti and Vega probably will be the same price as 1080Ti, so I'm settling for 1070.
>>59609858
Any EVGA with iCX
>>59609873
Why specifically iCX? What's so great about it?
>>59609919
You get that premium feel that does not come with the lesser models.
post them

5 years ago people laughed at him.
Now, a lot of people look up to him.

Is /g/ dead what happened?
>>59655705
It seems like he is going to try and run for president in 2020.
Why do only datacenter guys get all the cool networking stuff?
We're still stuck with 1GbE here.
>>59654881
>We're still stuck with 1GbE here.
only you
>>59654986
10GbE NICs and (managed) switches are still costly as fuck
>>59654881
What were you planning to do with >1GBits network connection?
Should I buy a GTX 1080 now to replace my R9 280x, or wait for volta/pascal refresh?
No Pascal refresh, Nvidia is finished with rolling out Pascal
Might as well wait for Volta, will be interesting come GTC 2017 0n May 8
http://www.gputechconf.com/
>>59654885
What makes you so sure there wont be any pascal refreshes? A lot of rumors seem to indicate otherwise.
>>59654834
>nvidia
in the trash it goes
I'm going to have to get a Macbook for my animation program next year. I don't like it but I accept it.
I'm here to ask where the 'Macs are best for artists' meme comes from. I mean you can run PS and 3D modeling software on Windows just fine. Is Apple just paying off studios and schools to use their crap?
They just come with a bunch of programs headed toward creativity. That's really it.
>>59654775
Buy a Thinkpad and do a hackintosh.
Less expensive.
Better trackpoint (and trackpad).
>>59654844
I'm not getting a memepad I'm not /g/core,.I can't anyways, a Macbook is a strict requirement for the program.
Do you buy new phones /g/?
I was thinking of purchasing the new galaxy s8 but looking at the price i have some doubts.
>The s8 costs around 720€
>The s7 costs 420€
Is 300€ increase worth it?
New phones? What the fuck for?
My galaxy note 4 has a removable battery, SD card, and is now easily rootable for emotionOS. Why the fuck would I blow $800 on something inferior?
>>59654430
>a new overpriced toy costs more than an old overpriced toy
I fail to get your point. 420 bucks for S7 is at least 200 bucks too much for what it offers, specially given how Samsung goes about supporting their shit, does it really matter whether you overpay 200 or 500 bucks? If you're that poor, you shouldn't buy either then.
>>59654430
I only buy a phone that can be rooted. I don't play games so I look for features rather than power.

In 4 months I will have 1 degree with 1.0 GPA, 0 connections and a handful of half completed projects.
How does one go from that to high 5 figures? I need a big fucking redpill and any stories from people who were once unsure and scared about how they were going to get anywhere in tech but somehow succeeded/failed.
>>59653858
>1.0 GPA
Is that a typo? The university I went to kicks you out if you have two consecutive semesters with lower than 2.0.
>>59653873
No I just drop out of topics/forget to unenroll when switching, I get credit/distinction but that's not what the transcript will say. I probably have like a 0.8 GPA
Complete your projects I guess
I'm trying to decide on a NAS. I think these are my final two candidates -
Synology DS216+II
QNAP TS-251+
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?CompareItemList=124%7C22%2D108%2D331%5E22%2D108%2D331%2C22%2D107%2D253%5E22%2D107%2D253
The NAS will be used primarily as a Plex server so I can play my movies, pictures, and music when I am on the road. I am most interested in performance. Performance is almost all I really care about. Features are a secondary consideration as I intend to use mostly just Transmission and Plex on the NAS. I will be putting a pair of Seagate IronWolf HDD drives inside the NAS.
Which of those two are the better NAS for me?
Synology doesn't support Plex transcoding from what I know, so performance may take a hit. Yet Synology has more QA'd software than QNAP.
I run my plex off a first gen i3 and have no problems. Can you scalp a small lenovo or dell and use that?
Build your own. If performance is that important to you these toys won't cut it.
I'm still confused why you emphasize performance that much, though, when your primary objective is to do some torrenting and streaming over the interwebs.
Let's help OP out.
OMV or Unraid?
