What's the difference between windows sonic and Dolby atmos in the windows 10 creators update?
>>59773474
Both of them cost money, right?
>>59773474
Dolby atmos only works with some receivers for now.
>>59773532

/pcbg/ - PC Building General-- Shariared edition
Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions.
State the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or improve specs.
List the games or software you use most often.
Use common sense and put some effort into your queries.
GOOGLE IT FIRST

>Pentium G4560 remains the best if your budget is only around $500.
>The Ryzen 1700 is the only R7 worth purchasing.
>If you're building a PC with an i5, wait for Ryzen 5 to compare. (Out April 11)
>i3 are no longer worth getting with zero exceptions. The budget choice is the G4560. Otherwise get an i5/r5.
>Locked i5s are a better value than unlocked i5s and perform similarly, especially in games. They are in no way "useless"
>R5 is unreleased. Any benchmarks/claims are unreliable and should be treated as such.
>SSDs are worth it. Expensive SSDs aren't worth it.
>RX 500 series coming out April 18. Ryzen 5, April 11. Vega coming Q2 2017.
>for budget builds, consider a mATX setup for case/mobo savings
There's been a huge upswing in disinformation in these threads, and in the community in general. At the end of the day, YOU are the one who loses if you take bad advice.
If you see any other build advice or part list threads, direct them here with >>>/g/pcbg and report.
NH-D15 or Dark Rock Pro 3
Currently thinking of running this setup:
>Intel G4560 Kaby Lake
>Asus Dual-R480X (4GB OC)
>Asus Prime B250 Plus
>8GB DDR4 (and going 16 once I get the money)
>Corsair CP-9020097-EU VS Serie VS550 80 Plus ATX
>Low-end Sharkoon case
Just want to get some games running, even with Medium settings. Not too keen on some of the AAA titles and do slight amount of Office work with it. Any suggestions?
How big is the R5, anyway? I don't think I've ever seen one in person, but that's what I bought for my new rig. My current case is probably 12-13'' tall and maybe 7-8'' wide.
So I've been thinking about making a simple DOOM remake for a project. What language would make this process quicker, and are there any libraries I should consider? I was thinking C++, but I want /g/'s opinion.
>>59772889
>simple
the fuck do you figure
>>59772889
Proceed.
Remake it in Hasklel for the meme points
I'm done with Windows 10. It's a slow, buggy, intrusive nuisance.
How can I be confident that a pirated copy of Windows 7 won't phone home to whoever cracked it?
you can't. if anything you're doing is so important that you can't risk that, then go find a legitimate copy.
>>59772843
I know really that this has to be the case, you're always putting yourself at the mercy of whoever cracked it.
Any tips from anyone though? To minimize risk, let's say. I don't really mind the loss of my money, just Microsoft gaining it. If there's some way for me to gain a copy by burning $200 let me know.
DazLoader
Recently I found out about Secure Scuttlebutt, a peer-to-peer platform where each account is comprised of public/private crypto keys and an append-only log/diary.
This allows to create, for example, a completely decentralized and encrypted Twitter/e-mail replacement:
https://github.com/ssbc/patchwork
https://staltz.com/an-off-grid-social-network.html
It has a lot of advantages, and it makes surveillance and censorship impossible.
So... how about an imageboard based on SSB? The only thing needed would be a list of public keys, and since there are no accounts you could generate a new pair for each post. Deleting posts wouldn't be possible. It seems like an interesting experiment. What do you think?

I used that until Office 2010 finally fixed the shit '07 threw down. Word '97 is great.
I nominate WinAmp, specifically the light version.
PuTTY
how are you supposed to run this on a server?
I don't want to have to use PLEX but it seems like the only option that just works without having to install x on a fucking server
>>59772467
You're not supposed to. You just install the client in your computer and then connect via ftp or another protocol to the server.
>>59772563
how the fuck does that work if I want to run it on my phone or stream it to a chromecast?
>>59772585
Install it on your fucking phone and point it at where your media is.
I just wondered, how hard is to create a script to read and write on services like Whatsapp or Twitter without using a developer API?
Is it too difficult to do so with only sockets?
>>59772392
Do you mean using the API?
You're going to need to program for that, I believe there is a third party tool that could interface the programming for you but not sure on functionality.
And you could use websockets or streaming sockets with most modern languages.
Twitter you could probably do with Grease Monkey in Firefox.
I've made some cool stuff using Grease Monkey that's really hit Firefox hard (it doesn't like getting told to open a hundred tabs, perform string changes and submit them).
>>59772470
In particular, I wonder if there is a way to do so without using a browser, in an environment without GUI.
Right,
I'm in the middle of downloading macOS 10.12 Sierra and I'm going to try to install and run it on virtualbox to see what the fuse is all about.
What should I do on it that would impress a long time Windows user?
learn to use a bash shell
Try to take a screenshot.

>What should I do on it that would impress a long time Windows user?
Use less than 1GB of RAM after using it for a few days.
Is this company a meme?
Amazon seems to shill their products a lot but I never heard of them.

I picked up the r1 hd last year. It was easy enough to root and install a custom recovery. It's a pretty good phone, but I only buy the cheapest phones anyways.
