I'm new to the world of cryptocurrency, and I'm looking into setting up my PC to start mining. Electricity is included in my rental bill so I don't give a shit about that. However, I've heard that mining can put a lot of strain on your PC and potentially damage it. Is that true? If so, is there software you can download (e.g. to control the CPU fan) to mine crypto without damaging your PC? I'm away from my flat/sleeping for about 16 hours per day so potentially I could have it running all that time. I'm not a tech guy, so apologies if any of what I said is stupid, all advice appreciated.
If it matters, my processor is an Intel Xeon CPU X5450 @ 3.00GHz and I have 6GB RAM.
>>59874964
You're gonna be mining dust.
>>59875077
Why, because my PC isn't powerful enough or because I've missed the boat? I don't care if I only get a minuscule amount desu, I'll try to mine one of the new and (in my opinion) up-and-coming cryptos so it'll just be a way to stock up on a few of those. Obviously I can just buy some, but this might be less hassle.

Will Ryzen 3 be the final nail in the coffin for Intel?
>>59874886
Unfortunately I don't see R3 series doing any damage to the poorfag pentium. What will, however, is the Raven Ridge APUs that are upcoming. Zen+ and Vega combined on a single CPU is going to have insane price/performance ratio.

Can I make Windows Explorer to look like Windows 95 Explorer? Are there as minimal file managers as Win95 file manager?
Why old UIs were so capable and yet so compact? Why when minimalism is in its heyday today UI stuff is so slow and bloated?
No, but you can always install Gentoo.

Anyone else feel that now that technology has become so easy and forgiving that it's far less interesting?
Not even mentioning quality of the experience of using, so much as how engaging the atmosphere surrounding it was.
You watch episodes of Computer Chronicles and it is so formless, so undecided, no one know what they were doing or what was going to happen. Now, everything is pre-written and those that are in their position will be in them forever.
It's because from about the mid-2000s (you could even argue the mid-90s) there has been very little genuine innovation, but because of attitudes like yours people think that "innovation" should be a non-stop process. So now we have releases that are pretty much rolling betas where they don't fix what they already have before moving on to something else, because new things are all that matters. It's far more boring to say "let's just improve what we have," but that's where we are right now. Unfortunately we have a shit-ton of "developers" to employ and so we have to endure trash before that bubble bursts.
>>59873599
It only looks easy on surface. Technology has gotten a lot more complex under the hood. Take smart phones for example. Sure on surface it looks like they are simple devices, normies use them without problems. But if you start dissecting your phone you will get overwhelmed by complexity very quickly. There is no way to understand what is going on in there, just one big SoC blob that you have no idea how it works, unless you are PhD EE and have read all the documentation of latest snapdragon including that of its CPU, GPU and DSP processors. It is same with software. Android source code is massive, have you tried compiling it? It will take few hours just to clone source repository and a few more to compile it. Now compare this to "hard to use by current standards" C64. Suddenly C64 is a lot more simpler compared to even basic android phone. You even get schematics and programming manual for it when you buy it. Noways it's impossible to know what is going on in all of your devices, it's all just to big and complex to comprehend, so you limit yourself to whatever has been made available to you. Only way today to experience joy with technology is to limit yourself to retro computers and microcontrollers.
>>59874393
This is why Terry made TempleOS (well, that and God telling him to), but that still fails somewhat because, as you say the C64 told you everything, and everything existed in the real-world. Now everything is being moved to the processor and while there is an obvious advantage to that as a user, as a hobbyist it's far less interesting. Convenient, yeah; better; almost certainly; more intersting, not so much.
I remember people talking about this on the BBS Documentary.

First for smash capitalism!
h-hey.
I can't decide on a distro.
What would I lose choosing Manjaro over Arch?
Would updates be delayed over when Arch gets them? No as many packages? Anything like that?
Is there like an easy guide on how to quickly get Arch up to how Manjaro is, like step by step and up to date on what you need for all the basic normie desktop stuff? And I don't know, a better installer?
Or would I just not miss out on anything using Manjaro?
>>59873487
You can check the arch wiki for that guide you're asking for.
Manjaro AFAIK does hold the updates for a little, but it should be a matter of a few days if it does really work like that.
desu who cares in getting something a week sooner or later; 99% of things you won't directly notice anyway

Assuming I have more money than brains and am coming from an iPhone 5, what would be my best option? Is there something around the corner I should be waiting for?

Which keys on your current keyboard are completely worthless to you? Which keys you never use? Which keys you don't even know what they do?
I'll start.
>>59873106
The backslash key. I've never ever used the Backslash, I only use it for the pipe sign. It sucks how most keyboards are really designed for use with DOS.
capslock, fuck that key
the only time I ever use it is when I accidently press it while typing and have to turn it back off again
I just take the key off my keyboards now, whoever thought it should exist needs to be castrated

We’re totally over the bloody moon to announce Ubuntu MATE 17.04. This is our favourite release of Ubuntu MATE so far and, we believe, a real return to form. Ubuntu MATE 16.10 was a transitional release, in every sense, and 17.04 concludes the upheaval of migrating to GTK3+. This has been a release focused on refining the distro and sweating the details.

https://9to5mac.com/2017/04/13/purported-iphone-8-schematics-show-bezel-less-front-rear-touch-id-same-thinness-as-iphone-7/
>In what is the first supposed leak of ‘real’ iPhone 8 technical schematics, an image posted to Weibo today claims to show technical drawings for the next-generation iPhone straight from Foxconn. The drawings depict an iPhone 8 front and back with minimal bezels on the left and right sides of the screen. Compared to an iPhone 7, the top and bottom bezels are also significantly smaller.
>On the back, the dual camera system and rear flash is stacked vertically in the top-left corner, with a gap for a Touch ID fingerprint sensor below the Apple logo. The image is labelled with dimensions for the chassis, which are comparable to the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 — despite the significantly larger screen
