Tbqh, Rust seem like the answer to my prayers in having a sane systems programming language. But I cant bring me to use it due to it's blatant agenda of cultural marxism. Is there a more white-friendly version of Rust, or who would be up for making a /g/ version without the SJW baggage?

What's a good method for backing up important files?

I'm from /agdg/ and I do uploads to source control everytime I do work, and then roughly once a week I backup to an external hard drive.

However, I'm getting paranoid as I get further along and want to make sure I'm doing things properly so I don't have to ever experience data loss. What else can I do to help preserve data in a (preferably) automated manner?

Build using secondhand parts senpai

Granted, I would avoid secondhanded Harddisks, but CPUs, mobos, GPUs and SSDs should be fine. Moving parts tend to get fucked over time.

https://www.whistleout.com.au/Broadband/Providers/vividwireless/Mobile/vividwireless-4G-Unlimited-Internet-Plan?contract=0&modem=Mobile-Wi-Fi-Modem-4G

From someone thats on an adsl connection,4km away from exchange, get absolute shit download speeds (youtube loads at 360p at best),is something like this “home” 4g connection a viable option? Ive actually used my phone as a hotspot for gaming and latency wise it was averaging 30ms which is acceptable,im assuming this 4g modem would also provide a similar latency, plus the connection speed of 4g.

Am I overlooking something here or can this genuinely work for people in my case?

Higher prices and data caps but you're Australian so you get both of those on landlines
An LTE modem will be superior in every regard to that absolute horseshit landline

Red-pill me on the state of SSHDs.

Why aren't they more popular then?

Yep, microcode update. Recent chips and boards should already have it, mine does and I bought it in the middle of 2016.

There's a specific exponent you can test in Prime95 to see if you have the bug, if you're worried.

Wikia have recently switched to webp and it is shitting up all image searches. Google is pushing webps to towards the top of searches as well.

Presumably Google wants us all to save image space to make room for the coming 2MB of react javascript and stylesheets coming in their next responsive site demands.

Hey, this is gonna sound retarded, but how do you just get the internet?
No older adults can help me with this, they're all about getting landline/cable/internet packages which are WAY too expensive and offer FAR too much.

Phone would be taken care of, cable is shit.
I just want the internet. Really only need to load sites on par with this one and stream video on tube sites.
What are my options?

I have an old PC, currently it's getting online through wanna these, out of the wall, with the telephones.
If I bite the bullet and buy say a newer, shitterier laptop, will that offer me something more economical? (My PC's old enough not to support HDMI. Could never get it online back in 2011 on Rutgers internet.)

>how do you just get the internet?
Talk to a internet service provider in your area and see if they can offer that.

>If I bite the bullet and buy say a newer, shitterier laptop, will that offer me something more economical?

What do you mean?
>>
>>59881714
a lot of ISPs offer just internet, it really depends on where you live.

the only difference between a new modem given to you by an ISP and the one you have now is that the new one wouldn't have phone lines. as long as you have an ethernet port on your computer you should be alright.

protip: whenever you do decide on your service, buy a modem for yourself. you can pay a one time cost of $60-$80 dollars for a modem instead of the $10 a month an ISP would charge you for using theirs
>>
you call the company, and then they salesperson spends 30 minutes asking you things like "so what do ya like to do on them there internets", and you tell them you're not interested in answering that question, and then they will try to sell you a cable package, you will say no, and then they will say the best offer for you is x/month, and then you tell them you are REALLY not interested in the "free" landline that "comes with" it and then they magically discover a more basic deal that is x-$10/month

and then a month later you see some $9.99 charge for a movie that they claim you rented from them and have to yell at them for another 15 minutes to get it taken off the bill

i think if you don't bring your own router they'll gank you with a montly rental fee for one of theirs. you can bring your own modem if you like, but most likely they will still charge you the hidden monthly rental fee for using theirs. then again im not an expert this is just the experience i had when i moved recently

Can someone redpill me on NoSQL?

Why is it so "powerfull"?

I can't even imagine a schema without relations.

>>
>redpill
Fuck off back to where you came from
>>
>>59881434
I thought the analogy of the pills, as the blue being the current status quo and the red leading to a new way of understanding was most adequate for this case.

Didn't mean to disrespect senpai.
>>
>>59881407
Depends on what your data is and how you store it.

A relational database will prove advantageous if you rely on the database to do the work (lots of joins, structured data). If you have data that doesn't fit well in that model, or you are primarily doing read calls, then a more simplistic key->values storage might be preferred in which case you would want to use nosql.

Is video editing viable on Linux? I know barely anything about Linux but I want to try it it out, just want to make sure there are some proper options for editing.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

If you want something simple and free as In freedom kdenlive is good just make sure you're using the latest version. If you need a professional proprietary editor go for lightworks or davinci resolve.
