it's not hard to google for review roundups. come back if you have a specific question whose answer isn't easy to find from googling.

I was hoping there would be some /g/ approved options but thanks b
>>59924686
what possible credibility could you ascribe to anonymous people on the internet that isn't better than the knowable bias of a named person who makes a living reviewing shit? even if you figure that the reviewer always shills for X brand or whatever, you can weight his opinion accordingly. you can't do that on 4chan.
looking for "/g/ approved" anything is fucking retarded. don't seek approval from this board. you're not that big a loser. nobody is.
What even is Linux supoosed to be?
It's clearly not trying to become the next big operating system~

No, because it's currently the current big kernel.

Why are you installing it if you don't know whether it's terrible

Shit busted one of my external hard drivers "said it was corrupted", it works fine on linux and ran SMART scan on it, it's perfect literally uninstalled Windows 10.
From today I'm linux only, Wine works just as good as the aberration W10 is.
My start menu stopped working since the update. Somebody help pls.

As much as I enjoy games myself, collecting the soundtrack into a well organized library after playing one and ushc, you fucking gamer fanboys are getting fucking obnoxious. This whole place has become nothing but daily "LMAO X IS BANKRUPT AYYY", version over9000++ of some or other stupid graphics card like it's the next coming of jesus bringing the new invention of sliced bread, keyboard/mice circlejerks and anime fappers.
This used to be a place where people mostly had meaningful discussions about technology, with amusing derailments. Now /g/ just IS derailment into smartphone and gamer bullshit.

Hey /g/uys, are there any employed electrical engineers here? I'm currently minoring in EE and in a physics class I'm taking we're learning all of Maxwell's Equations (Gauss' Law, Ampere's Law, Faraday's Law, etc.). I'm curious to know: Do you guys use these equations frequently in your day-to-day projects? Or do they mostly take a backseat to actual circuit design? Also, how is it being an EE?
theres only codemonkeys here, try /sci/
>>59923271
Will you design essential shit like components used in circuits, like transformers, caps and shit? Then you'll use them daily.
Will you design products that use electronic components? You won't need them.
>>59923271
From talking to my EM professor it seems like on most real projects of any complexity you need software to model the fields and their effects. So yes, as those laws govern how things work but you probably won't be using any dot or cross products. This is because most common situations have pre-solved equations wherein you just need to find the right situation and plugin variables.

the CS50 class is pretty good, even though I never actually turned "homework" in
it all depends on the effort YOU put in. If you are the type that can get shit done independently, then of course free courses are worth it

How much does not having a uni degree affect your job prospects?
>>59922922
In very. very general terms, not very much. Experience is worth more than a piece of paper almost all applicants will have.
If you want a particular job, think what they want, and mold yourself to fit that. Get the relevant experience, and get the relevant "when confronted with this situation, I did this" competancy question fodder. A degree is [pseudo experience and] knowledge. You can show the latter without a degree, but in some fields you might have trouble doing that.
You'll find that some people got a degree *after* they got into a job they liked, because they needed it to tick boxes for career progression. If you're inside an organisation, having done years of work for them, and you suddenly fit the bill for a higher paid job, and you apply to it, you'll get it. It's easier for them to find a replacement for the lower paid than it is for the high, and because you've worked there they feel comfortable with you.
Ask a more specific question.
>>59923157
So how do we (people without degrees) get over that initial barrier and get a job?
How do we network?
>>59923157
This is applicable to most jobs, but not all. I highly doubt any R&D division would even consider you without a diploma.
Additionally, for positions with a large number of applicants, lacking a relevant degree simply means you get filtered out in favour of the many who do have it.
So it depends. Indeed, OP should be more specific.
