Cold Boot
Attacks: Cold boot attacks consist of removing the DRAM or power-cycling the machine in order to read the memory content. The DRAM is often chilled to slow down the loss of information that occurs when the cells are no longer refreshed.
Mitigations: The DRAM is soldered, and protected by the active clamshell mesh. Cooling down the secure microcontroller will trigger a tamper event, erasure of the encryption key, and system power down. Encryption keys are only stored in the main memory by the UEFI for an extremely short time before they are passed to the SED, and are securely memset’ed long before the OS is booted. When the machine is put in sleep mode while the user is away, the key is not stored in the main memory nor in the SED controller memory. To prevent other kinds of attacks on the memory content, the entire RAM is wiped before the OS is booted

In case of emergency, throw computer in furnace
>be me
>fixing father's phone (removing the back cover)
>"How do I use the cloud Anon?"
>I don't know shit about the cloud other than what I read on /g/
>"You need to hire a cloud service!", I say with the confidence of someone who knows what he's talking about
>mother is watching
>palms are sweaty
>hands are heavy
>both look worried that I might drop the phone
>"Anon, Just what is the cloud?", father asks
>"Someone else's computer!", I yell
>mother and father jump back
>"Another computer", I correct myself
>"No, it's everyone's computers in a network", says mother
>"Who owns the computer", asks father at the same time
>"The jews!", by the time I thought about not saying that the words had already left my mouth
>mother and father are aghast
>total silence while I'm trying to add a new microSD to father's phone
>mother and father keep their looks away the whole time
>I break the silence "It's not everyone's computer. It's a computer"
>"Everything couldn't fit in a single computer. It would be too big, Nobody could own such computer!", speaks father sounding as if he was speaking to a retarded child
>"Right, it has to be the network", mother interjects
>"Yes. I read years ago that the NASA uses your computer to do some calculations without you even knowing. The cloud is something like that", concludes father
>I don't know which one of the implied misconceptions I should address, and noting my dumbfounded face, father says:
>"Then tell me; Where is the computer? Exactly where? Physically. Just tell me where the cloud is physically! Obviously it isn't an actual cloud! It can't be!"
>("In Austin, Texas"), I yell in my mind; but I am unable to understand how I reached that conclusion
>while I am there with a confused look trying to figure out why I thought that, mother and father laugh at me because of how fucking stupid I am
Why does it have to hurt so much?
>"How do I use the cloud Anon?"
"You're already using it, Dad. It's just a marketing gimmick for storing your data online. Your gmail account is 'the cloud', and you could email an archive of your photos to yourself to have it backed up there if you wanted."
"oh"
Actual conversation I had with my Dad last week.

I've got a Thinkpad T530 with no screen, no OS.
I've got a Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D cable, a VGA cable, an RJ45 cable, power adapter for the T530, and a non-EFI PXE server setup.
There is a password set for the BIOS, and I know the password.
I can't traverse bootup blind to get it to network boot. pls, anyone w/ a Thinkpad T530 willing to guide this blind anon?

T430 Master fucking race.
Add in a $50 SSD, $12 3rd party adapter, and $30 3rd party 94Wh battery.
$200 each (after upgrades) for a laptop that benchmarks within 10% of current gen ULVs and can be tossed off ladders.
Hey /g/,
Just got this refurb LCD, and it has what looks like "bruised" pixels (for want of a better term). Is this fixable, or do I just have to live with it?
You're stuck with them, sadly.
>IBM AIX
Holy fuck. You've got one of the original unices. Enjoy that shell, anon.
LCD backlight film is stuck to the rest of the screen components
Put an ice cube in a Ziploc bag and slowly rub it over the dark spots
That will clear them up for the most part, not all the way but it will be near unnoticeable unless you really look for them
>>59992936
>You're stuck with them, sadly.
Ah well.
Yeah, I bought the monitor because it can handle pretty much ANY resolution or refresh rate. Including what my RS/6000 wants. This is the first time I've gotten it to work on a display. Previously I had to use it over serial console only.

what the fuck how is this possible?

because your open pages and history are constantly read and processed through an algorithm or whatever the fuck, it makes it easier to advertise to you, and to optimize your time spent searching the database. i would imagine if you don't have to search 10 times for the same thing, and only have to search once, they probably save a fraction of a cent. i dunno man. probably the handler assigned to you in the guardian angel program is helping you out.
>>59992419
Dude that shit has been happening for years. Frankly, using Youtube in the first place places you in square in the middle of botnet valley, but I'm sure you can get around it with enough privacy addons.
also, because it's easy to predict the future of a lesser entity with sufficient data.

a big ass 17-inch screen clevo laptop. serviceable, great display.
not for gaming btw, just for grad school. which involves me trolling through a lot of old texts in various languages, and often different versions of the same core text, side by side. think of it as using diff all day, but for more conceptually abstract purposes.
anyway, thing was easily dissembled and reassembled, looked great, and worked nicely for a couple of years. then all of a sudden the keyboard started getting dead keys, so i had to replace that. then one dead pixel after another after another (had like 10 noticeable dead pixels by year 3 of owning it). then the kicker. i plug in my charger one day, unplug a few hours later, and the jack rips out with it, breaking a bunch of the plastic surrounding it, and severing the (unfortunately soldered) connection between it and the motherboard as well.
i had enough at that point, removed the drives, used 'em for a jbod setup as a backup device, then dropped a big chunk of cash on a precision 7510 (which was the best computing purchase i've made in a long time). this machine has the same kind of sturdy build quality as the old mac powerbooks. no regrets.
im trying to modify clash royale on memu and everytime i find the value for gold it logs me out and logs me back in and my hack is gone

At what point did mainstream web developers say "fuck it" and use early 2000s porn sites as inspiration for their core design philosophy? All that's missing are some popup windows and malware being dropped from flash ads.
The solution is simple: Don't read forbes.
