Any audiophiles online right now?
I recently purchased a condenser microphone in order to record higher quality audio for a series of projects I'm working on, but what I didn't realise at the time of purchase was that I was also going to have to buy a separate phantom power unit in order to sufficiently power the microphone.
Having looked at a few online though, I can't figure out how I would then connect it directly to my PC. I'm reading some things saying that I'd require another external audio interface but now I'm even more confused. I didn't even know what an XLR cable was prior to this. I have no idea what I'm doing. Can anybody explain it to me in idiot-speak before I make a bad/misinformed purchase?
I think there are devices which plug into the wall and provide power while passing the signal through. But I'm not super knowledgeable in this stuff.
What microphone did you get? Just out of personal curiosity.
>>60083330
This has nothing to do with audiophiles. You need audio interface like you said, scarlet 2i2 is good entry level interface. You connect it to PC using usb cable. You also use it as DAC/AMP for your headphones/monitors.
>>60083396
Because I'm at babby's first condenser microphone-tier I bought a Blue Yeti after multiple recommendations from people. Apparently it's a decent entry mic.
>>60083408
So the audio interface IS a phantom power unit then? I thought they were separate things.
If requesting purchasing advice, please provide your country and what carrier you will be using it with, along with wanted features, budget and size.

>So Samsung won the best Smartphone of the year award, right?
I'm not sure, but I think those are headphones Anon, not a smartphone.
Im getting one, but I 100% guarantee the headphones that come with it arent better than my current earbuds or headphones, and really the headphones are almost entirely irrelevant to me
It is nice that they maybe include decent headphones with the phone, and its always good to have backups, but really that's not even in the top 10 reasons for me to get a phone
>>60083209
Those don't look like Samsung earbuds to me. But for earbuds that come free with a phone, Samsung has the best. I wouldn't call them fucking wonderful, but they're good enough I didn't replace them until they died.

It's shit bro.
>>60082611
No
Defraggers are actually a little dangerous, largely because they play with registry files. Almost zero benefit from using it, while having massive consequences if it goes awry.
File recovery may be useful if you have a file you really need recovered, but depending on how old the file is, it's likely already been overwritten with other shit you've downloaded.
tl;dr it's all garbage
>>60082664
Sorry, confused defraggers with registry cleaners for some reason.
Still pretty useless with largely no benefits.
oh geezus im going crazy wih this one ...
picked up an iMac (model a1225 thats all i know) cheap the other day. i fully expect it to not work, or need some repair.
so i get home plug it in and it begins to start up and get to me the screen with a folder and a ?
cool, no software installed. easy. i stick my retail OS X disc in and am unable to boot from the disc.
so i tried about 4 other OS X discs, same thing. furthest i got was a gray screen with a cursor (hours of waiting nothing ever loads)
then i decide to stick an ubuntu disc in (who knows, maybes its a bad dvd drive) BAM ubuntu loads, recognizes the HDD, and installs.
so now here i am with an iMac with Ubuntu 14.04 installed.
hardware tests on ubuntu shows everything is good, all memory is present and usueable, hdd is correct size, video card is recognized, and working.
stick my OS X disc in while running ubuntu, and it shows an install disc (obvously cant run it tho)
what im getting at is wtf is going on? everything is good, i just cant boot from an OS X disc.
just tried it with a windows 7 disc, same thing. shows up in ubuntu, but cant boot from it.
also i am using a windows keyboard ... idk if that makes a difference. dont really wanna go buy a new keyboard
sounds like a firmware issue
>>60082580
scratch that, i was able to boot from my windows disc ... it took some real trying, but i got it to load. still wont recognize ay of my 4 os x dvds

update on the drawing tablet: I got part way through drawing a mitu before the drivers died? the software just fucked off. I still had pressure sens for bit and then it went, at least in Photoshop it did, in windows 10 screenfeatch drawing it was fine. I'll try tinkering a bit and report back again.
Are "soundbars" any good or are they just a marketing meme? I've heard some have some built in subwoofers, but I imagine tiny, compact subwoofers must be pretty unimpressive. If they're shit by themselves, do they compliment a 2.1 sound system, like pic related?
Wait, I'm dumb. That picture shows a "surround sound system" (the soundbar is front/center/right speakers, the other two are satellite speakers)
They are preferable to the shitty speakers that they use in TVs these days
>>60082957
This. Soundbars came into being because TVs are so thin you can't put proper speakers into them anymore. Also, it's a great way to make you purchase something separately and make more money.
