>go on youtube to look up quick answer to an Android programming question

Nothing has ever turned me off so quickly off a programming project as that. It's horrifying.

I like the pajeet programming videos.
When it comes to explaining formal concepts, the hindus don't fuck around, and they don't over simplify things.
>>
>>60155228
I don't. I just need to see the video itself anyways and the narration is already annoying enough. I just go to see the code placement and how it adds the functionality.
>>
please don't be rude. i don't like those videos either, but we're not really the intended audience. i think they're aimed at other indian programmers and students

it is a very unpleasant accent though

lol ive seen it.

They call her an "engineer".

1. VERY unlikely that there would ever be a woman engineer like that.
2. VERY unlikely that she would be that attractive. Lets face it she was attractive.
3. They used that beta guy from that HBO show "pied piper" or whatever the fuck because his bumbling weird ass self is about the only way they could find a white guy to play the part.

Overall, obvious pandering.

With Intel shoveling backdoors into their hardware on state's orders for 'national security', do you think there will be a market for clean, unmonitored hardware?
Would you be interested in buying something like that?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>60154761
There will be a market, but how do you guarantee that your hardware is clean? (you can't)

Until someone makes a HUGE breakthrough in chip fabrication and develops a nano-scale fab machine that costs <$50k and can fit inside a room, there is no hope for future security.

Ideally, you'd be able to build your own CPU design (or use one from a reliable source) and have it be fabricated in this machine.

An off-the-shelf CPU can be riddled with security issues and you'd be none the wiser, so producing CPUs yourself is the only way out.
>>
Of course there is a market, but it's not that big.
Isn't RISC-V coming out soon?
>>
>>60154761
Yes, but it's not like I could afford the $4k they were asking for for that Talos board. And the ARM world is even more of a proprietary shitshow than x86 is. I despair of free hardware ever happening in a meaningful way.

why do Apple products "just werk" ?
27 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
because they pay copywriting geniuses to create easily internalized slogans
>>
Because they made a walled garden and have absolutely obscene amounts of money to pour into fleshing out their ecosystem. Honestly, they should "just work" even better considering all the money they have.
>>
>>60154115
what does a slogan have to do with anything?

their products work because the control both the software and hardware.

Windows has to work on tons of hardware while macbooks have like 12 variations and thats it

This. Just use ssh, scp, telnet and the like from the command line. You don't need some external interface like PuTTY for it on Linux.

/g/ bunsenlabs linux is secure? Is a good choice to start in the linux world?
14 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Based off of Debian so it should be relatively safe. I would say it should be fine to get your feet wet.
>>
Sure. It's just Debian with Open box
>>
>>60153169
bunsen labs is a pre configured debian jesssie which like ALL debian stable is pretty old but rock solid stable.
Real security comes from the user not the system, the system can help of course but in this case I would argue for you to go with Fedora as is more recent and more user friendly than a pre configured minimalistic distro

I'm surprised you fuckers do not have a sticky showcasing the best ways to get brand new products using RMA. Anus, Zotac, EVGA and w/e else premium brand are all displaying their 5 years warranty when indeed their premium products can last more than 5 years. For instance : happy buyer of a let's say 780ti, if the card is legit dead but still in warranty Zotac will give me a shiny 1080ti (same product marketlevel). When you think about it how cannot be obsessed onto provoquing the "legit death" of whatever premium but deprecated product you have ? I'd be the most alpha form of jewing, "hair in my soup, 5 years later"

>have FiOS, 50mbps/50mbps
>most of the time get full speed
>download speeds slow to shit in the evenings
>5-10mbps down most evenings
>know that this is "internet rush hour" and the network is congested
>decide to do support chat to report the issue in hopes that they'll add some capacity
>all the usual shit; reboot router etc
>after a few minutes the support agent escalates and gets a network tech.
I don't actually get to chat to the network tech, he just tells the support agent what to say to me
>notice I'm disconnected from the internet
>look into it; notice my router is broadcasting "test" and "test 2" SSIDs, not my SSIDs
This fucker accessed my router remotely and was dicking around with my settings remotely, without my permission
>kinda pissed about how invasive that is, but know its my own fault for using their default router so don't say anything to the support agent
>because he disconnected me, i got disconnected from chat, had to connect again.
>connect to chat again, get same agent, she's cool about it, apologizes etc, but she has to get in touch with another tech, because he moved on
>10 minutes says she can't get ahold of anybody, maybe its a shift change
>im a little annoyed but ok
>says she finally got in queue for a tech, will be 20 min wait
>more annoyed now, but still willing to play ball
>20 min later, new tech
>wants me to factory reset my router
>Don't want to do that, because I know it's not on my end, also would be a huge pain in the ass because I have custom SSIDs, passwords, and a repeater connected, which is a pain in the ass to configure
>tell support agent I can't do it right now, but I'll try it some other time
>disconnect from chat

Fuck. That was about 2 hours wasted. I know they have to do everything to rule out an issue on my end before doing anything on their end, but do you think they have enough information to have determined it really is on their end?
7 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
OP here, to clarify the end of my post; I mean wouldn't the network tech see that their network is congested somewhere? Do you think there's any chance they will just fix it without me having to contact them again.

That is, of course, assuming it really is on their end; which I feel pretty confident, because it's always during internet rush hour and only then.

You're surprised? All phone and live-chat support is manned by monkeys that know nothing more than how to follow a script. Their job performance is graded on one thing and one thing only: closing the support tickets they get sent as quickly as possible.

>>60152779
I'm sure the people with actual technical knowledge at Verizon know full well that the network is congested, and when and where that happens. They also know how that could be fixed. Thing is, fixing it would cost money. New wires, new routers, staff time taken away from other things. And so Verizon management has no incentive to do it, unless it starts costing them subscribers. This is as opposed to the support people, who neither know nor care about anything beyond getting you off the line quickly.
