Intel releases 9700 Kittson series of Itanium chips that will be officially the last ever ever EVER. Itanium was intended to be the 64-bit server counterpart to x86 architecture, but never took off. Then AMD conjured the amd64 extension to x86 and brought 64-bit to the consumer market effectively killing every other 64-bit arch. The rest is history.

I quit using Linux 3-4 years ago when I moved to Windows and I haven't kept up with all the distro changes. Now that W10 keeps changing all my settings every time I update I decided to get rid of this shitty OS and move to Linux. In the past couple years, has anything changed that makes one distro widely regarded as subjectively superior to all others for a regular user? And is Ubuntu still botnet?

tldr: can someone give a tldr of the past 4 years in the gnu/linux scene

What am I in for?
I have a really hard time learning things I don't like, and I'm more inclined to enjoy drawing as opposed to mathematics.

I think my IQ is somewhere between 110-130, so I should be able to learn it with some difficulty. I'm certainly not a genius.

>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>R5 1500X will keep above 60fps in every game. No i5
>R5 1600 is the best value for higher fps gaming and mixed usage; 1600x if you don't want to OC
>i7-7700k is bad value but good; may have heat issues even at stock clocks
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use. R5 if budget

Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for LoL, dota2, rocket league, etc
>1050Ti - if on sale for ~$105. RX560 soon & looks good
>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz, running most maxed; older games at 144+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, inject SMAA and drop settings for some games
>1060 - Gets outperformed by the RX 580; consider only if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA)
>1070 - not worth the extra cost for Gsync, except in certain cases
>1080 - 1080p@90-144+hz maxed; 1440p at lower hz.

So I'm making an FX build before the FX cpus disappear and I want some feedback from any anons out there willing to help.

My primary goal is to have a system for Qubes OS. And according to the qubes website, this means having AMD-V with RVI and AMD-VI... now, according to my research the FX processors do have this... BUT, some am3 motherboards dont support these features.

The Sabertooth mobo has good support (xen being the most important element for qubes os afaik.) But that list im sure is not complete so any more ideas on the motherboard I should go with would be great!
