So I'm looking to get a new free antivirus and I've done a bit of research. I'm looking at either malwarebytes or bitdefender, both seem good, but I've heard some things about malwarebytes that make it seem more like a secondary defender, rather than something that's always frontlining your defenses. Recommendations?

Just use malwarebytes and windows defender
antiviruses profit off of peoples retardation

bitdefender free is goat

ive compared them all for long times and bd is the only one ive come to like

mbam is nice but only a supplement. considering a license because of their reputation but nothing ever happens to me so it seems a waste

Use Malwarebytes every so often to scan for viruses. If you feel like you have to have something active, use Avast Free.

You can't show off in desktop threads with Mint or Ubuntu, gotta run Arch or Gentoo if you want to be a cool kid.

No, it is because some of them have security issues, or have restrictions other distributions dont, or arent "free" enough.

When someone says:
>"HURP LOOK AT THIS PC I *BUILT*"
I give them the same look I would give them if they just got done shopping at pic related and said
>"HURP LOOK AT THIS DESK I *BUILT*"

Please, stop using the words "build" and "PC" in the same sentence. You just make yourself look really, really incompetent and sad.

Correct word: Assemble. As in:
>"I assembled this PC."
or
>"I assembled this Ikea furniture."

Also, there's no reason to be upset that I compared your favorite PC to Ikea. It's just a simple and obvious comparison, and one that's utterly apt and accurate. If this upsets you, please stop living in your own fantasy land where snapping in a couple of clips or screwing in few screws makes you a "builder". It doesn't. You're an "assembler", just like the college girl holding the black-and-white cartoon instructions and carefully tightening cam-locks in her dorm room. You're both "assembling".

Live in reality.

I highly doubt a """tech enthusiast""" is capable of writing software that controls their house and car.

I've got a trashy old iPad that I hooked up to my home stereo/microphone system that I use to automate shit.

Pretty dope to just say "Hey Siri, turn on my car and set the AC to max". All it took was a raspi and arduinos.

Hi, i recently went from GTX 750 to iGPU HD 610 for budget reasons. I have noticed that videos now have more noticing "macroblocking", compression artifacts and banding (lack of dithering?) even on YT videos and Media Player with madVR render. Does nVidia really have some automatic magic video rendering technic or something? I have been using nVidia cards since 1999 so its kind weird to see video looks worse now. I dont know... if there is way to check if there something wrong or im just seeing things cuz i sold a better card?

What does /g/ recommend for starters?

I've seen some HP Proliant DL380 G4 with 6-bay 3.5" HDD support, but I'm not sure what kind of connector the motherboard uses for hard drives.
I found some photos of hot-swap HDD holders for similar servers and they all show hard disks with non-SATA connector.
I really wanted to use my old SATA 3.5" hard drives with this server, though looks like they might be not compatible, I wasn't able to find any SCSI to SATA adapter that doesn't cost more than an HDD itself.

The official PDF says there're 2 versions, SCSI and SAS version:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/images/ap/DL380G4_v37.PDF
But the insertion I found doesn't specify anything about that. In the back, on the left there's an additional SCSI port, pic related.
I imagine this version uses SCSI connectors for the hot-swap hard drives, maybe I should contact the seller.
Do any adapters exist for this kind of connector? it should pass both data and power to the HDD, unlike conventional SATA that uses separate power connector.

>Maximum Internal Storage Type

>Hot Plug U320 SCSI - 1.8 TB - 6 x 300 GB with standard internal hot plug SCSI drive cage

>Hot Plug SAS - 576 GB - 8 x 72 GB with standard internal hot plug small form factor SAS drive cage

It kinda sucks, doesn't it? I wonder why there's this stupid storage capacity, could it be bypassed with some firmware hack or is it due to hardware limitations?
