Are ebook tablets a meme? Would you buy one? And if you already have one, would you recommend it?
179 posts and 17 images submitted.
>>
Although I prefer actual paper books, e-ink displays are great. I've read a ton of books on my kindle I never would have read otherwise.
>>
>>60777671
See, that's why I'm so tempted to buy one. I like reading books when I lay down before my night's sleep, but paper books are sometimes too cumbersome for the bed, plus you need a light source and I'd rather not have that.

But my problem is that for a tablet that you mostly use for reading ebooks, it's too expensive at $100+ (Relative to what you get).
>>
If you can afford the space and money that paper books require, I think they're the superior option.

Reading from a regular screen for long periods of time feels a little stressful on my eyes, so I got an ebook. I am very satisfied with the purchase.

much depend of your compute usage if you feel you need another one
>>
>>60776521
I just use a widescreen monitor and find it fine. Its not as big as 2 monitors but just big enough for me!
>>
Its only useful when you need to monitor a bunch of shit at once (usually 6 monitor setups). Outside of that its counter productive, even for applications that can use it like DACs it doesnt help at all. Office studies show it makes you procastinate more. If you really need the space you can consider virtual desktops. If asnything size matters more but not much.

That thing was so ugly, and SO HEAVY.
My highschool had one computer lab with 30+ of them.
I got a job as an assistant for the summer one year(2004 or thereabouts) and we had to transfer all 30+ to storage when the eMacs came in. We had to load them on a tiny cart 6 at a time, and each of us had to grab 2 in hand(there were 5 of us) and haul them to the other side of campus in two trips.

I didn't even get to keep one because the RAM had been stripped out for the G3s in another lab.

What's your opinion on The Verge?

I used to be a follower of Engadget, when it was run by the guys who made The Verge. Josh Topolsky, Paul Miller, Nilay Patel. They left Engadget after a dispute with AOL, and Josh created "This Is My Next", which then became The Verge, which Paul and Nilay then joined.

I loved old Engadget. It had a sense of humour. They just loved tech. It had a good culture about it.

But these days The Verge feels completely different. Josh Topolsky is obviously gone - he went to write for Bloomberg, then he was fired so now he's doing something else. Paul Miller left for a while, but he's back - but not writing very frequently. Nilay is the editor-in-chief, but he doesn't write frequently either.

Instead The Verge has been taken over by a new generation of millennials. And I think they're all twats. They're all left-wing politicists. I'm sure Engadget was probably left-of-centre back in the day. But it was still primarily a technology site.

Perhaps it's me who's changed instead of the site though.

What do you guys think?

Ok, so the shortage of AMD cards has resulted in my 290 being worth over $200 on ebay again (dumb as fuck I know)
I have a friend that offered me his EVGA GTX 980 TI SC+ for $240

Should I sell the 290 and grab that bitch, or is there some underlying reason to keep the 290 that I'm not seeing?

I love my 290 but if I can get a performance boost and lower TDP for damn near free it seems like a no brainer imo.

This thread is for the discussion of NyaaPantsu (pantsu.cat), a free (FOSS) torrent indexer, and other nyaa alternatives.
The aim of this project is to write a fully featured nyaa.se replacement in golang that anyone will be able to deploy locally or remotely.

FAQ

>Why is Pantsu down/error 502?
Most likely because the team is deploying changes. Wait for a bit and refresh the page. It should be mostly stable now.

News
>AniDex and .si scrapers are done (deployment soon)
>Elastic search is fixed and has been optimized
>Trying to ensure pantsu uptime (over 90% now)
>Possible AniDB integration (shanaproject like)
>Working on CSRF protection
>Improving SEO
>Adding auto-refreshing
>Theme fix up is still ongoing (made more consistent)
>Sessions no longer expire when we restart
>Actual config files
>More mod tools
>Deployment script updates
>Various bug fixes and general improvements
