CPUs:
>G4560 - budget builds (<$500) unless G4600/G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>R5 1500x - generally all you need for 60fps with power to spare. No i5
>R5 1600 - best value for higher fps gaming & mixed usage; 1600x if you too lazy to OC
>i7-7700k - bad value but good for higher FPS; may have heat issues
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper/i9 - compute/Multitask/mixed use
Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for desktop stuff and very light game
>1050Ti for low budget. Drop settings if not Freesync/Gsync on newer games; RX560 if discounted <$90
>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz, running most maxed; older games at 144+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, inject SMAA & drop settings
>1060 - Generally outperformed by the RX 580 and GSync costs more; consider if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA/miners buying all RX570s)
>1070 - if on heavy sale-ish
>1080 - 1080p@100-144+hz maxed; 1440p at lower hz.
>1080Ti - 1440p@90-144+hz; 4k@60hz in SOME games, more at lower settings
General:

When people say the life of an HD is X amount of time, does that usually assume that the drive is being used (in a desktop for example) the entire time?

I've always wanted to play with gallium since it melts in your mouth and in your hands, and through the wonders of birthday money and ebay I now find myself in a position to get some. There's one problem, I know nothing about it as far as safety is concerned. Is it safe to hold or is that a bad idea like with mercury? Do I have to scrub my hands raw after holding it or where protective gear? As much as I like the idea of playing with molten metal in my hands it's definitley not worth poisoning myself over.

I'm on ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Default settings, only put lvm full drive encryption because I have a modern laptop CPU.
I go to software center and update. Restart, there are 4 more updates.
Update, restart, grub in rescue mode.
Are you serious Ubuntu. I reinstalled Ubuntu and am afraid to update. Any Linux experts here. I thought LTS means it will work edition.

Are there any companies that make ear buds that last a while? The pair have, by Harmon Kardon, a company that I read is supposed to make earbuds that last. The right ear just went out on me and the pair is only a year and a half old. I bought them for $50.
I've looked this up and can only find shitty clickbait articles. Can I find some earbuds that will last me a while? I don't mind paying extra as long as I can find something actually good.
