Such a strange thing happened. My laptop's display suddenly got dimmer, I lost Internet connection and as I later noticed, battery started unchanging. First thing I did was a system restore which didn't solve anything, I managed to reconnect by resetting the router, battery started charging after I plugged out and back in but it's still a bit dim even if I set brightness at 100%. Although I don't mind, is there a way to restore brightness from BIOS or something? Is there anything else I should check for damage?

I recently bought a Trust 10000mAh powerbank for 18$ and when I put it to my ear was shocked to hear that there is a DC-DC boost converter inside it to supply the 1A and 2.1A 5v USB outputs.
I was going to use it to power a gadget with constant ~100mA load, but as I understand boost converters are very inefficient at low loads.
Seems like a huge waste of energy to me. Why not use the cells in series of 2 and just use a 5V voltage controller to step down the voltage?
This would save energy on all the loading situations when compared to boost converter.

Am I missing something here?

If you step down the voltage to 5V efficiently you'll have to use a buck converter which is basically the same as a boost converter. If it's properly designed it should be quite efficient unless you really go to low loads like 1mA or something.
>>
>>60728303
Depends what boost converter is being used, but as far as I'm aware boost converters tend to have an efficiency of around 80-85% or about 90% at their peak.

>why not use cells in series of 2
Because that means a lower capacity in that same volume.
Also, like >>60728416 says, buck/boost converters are almost the same.
>>
Ok thanks for the answers.
From what i read online the difference would be ~5% between the two methods. I cant measure the low current performance of the power pack directly anyways, cause I want to keep the warranty.
Il just see how long it lasts with the given load and return the powerbank if it is below 60% efficiency.

How do you deal with perfection in your code, meaning the style, formatting and the best practices used?
Have you ever delved too much into it to became obsessed with it? I think I'm having a breakdown actually.

Shut up! No one can handle that kind of load, not even AMD users.

>>60728087
What, when core loads are distributed poorly? Probably submit an issue report to the poorly-optimized software causing the spikes and say that load management needs to be improved.

Hi guys. I have a question. Will this cpu cooler work with my motherboard?. And an other question. Am i good to go?. Any thing missing?. First time i am building a pc of my own but not the first time i have owned a gaming pc. Thanks
(pic unrelated)

There is no such thing as motherboard compatibility for coolers, the only thing that matters is socket support.

Your chosen mobo is AM4 and that cooler supports AM4, so yes it is.
>>
>>60727314
Ok. Thank you for the info. First time building a pc.
>>
>>60727515
No problem.

On /g/ these kind of questions are typically bundled in the "stupid questions/QTDDTOT" threads as we get plenty of them cluttering up our board every day.

Do you have any other questions about your build at all? If not you can delete the thread.

Are intel and Amd's active management technologies something we should actually be worried about? I don't like the idea of a hardware backdoor in my computer but I've also heard stufd like its not enabled by default and that its not an actual issue? Even if it is wouldn't it be possible to stop ot from your router (like a reverse firewall)?

If you have to ask a question like that, you don't need to worry.

Those with custom powerful pc's, what are some other practical uses for them other than gaming and entertainment? It seems like such a waste to have all that power only used on games. These things should be managing things for us like our own personal assistants by now. They could be managing our homes too. Seems like so much potential is there being wasted. How to put it to a more productive use?

Hey /g/, Ableton Anon here again.

With hardware set up, what would you recommend I learn to do this from? I thought about shadowing a guy down by a studio not to far from me, but I also want to know if it's possible to learn it alone.

this is the vaguest thread and no one knows who you are, this board is like the 8th largest now or something like that. With that said ableton, a dac is all the non instrument hardware you need really, and studio monitors. so maybe a ur22 mk2 and some yamaha hs8s. shitty drum boards arent needed and wont even be used if you perform live

Why does windows sonic for headphones virtual surround only work when the sound quality of the headphones is set to 16 bit 48000 Hz (DVD quality)? Everytime I try to set the sound quality to 24 bit 192000 Hz (Studio Quality) the virtual surround sound gets turned off.
