How do you deal with silent data corruption? The most used filesystems don't even checksum files and can't detect/repair files corrupted silently. Files can be corrupted and transferred to backups if no error has been detected. Magnetic fields on hard drives can weaken and change the bits on the platter. SSD are even worse for retaining data.
You are using ZFS/btrfs aren't you?

What a load on nonsense!
A month prior to when WannaCry hit, Microsoft had release a small security update.
If you had this update installed, WannaCry would not affect you.
I hate these "Sudo-Documentaries" where they dumb down ontent for the average Joe.
They are complete praising this one kid as if he is some kind of god.
He got lucky that he found the kill switch.
Yet this does raise questions regarding the level of professonality of the people in the IT security business.

>Documentary is obviously made for average Joes
>I hate when they dumb down content for the average Joe >:(
Are you a retard? What is the point of this thread exactly?
Are you arguing that documentaries should have advanced technical jargon so only a handful of the people that are it actually understand anything?
Or are you arguing about how computer viruses are - for obvious reasons - targeted at tech ignorant people?
Did you just make this thread to post retarded "I know how computers work and I hate normies. am I part of the club yet, guys?" shitpost?
Fuck off.
Hello, /g/entlemen.
Does anyone here have a Galaxy s7 with the S-View cover? I'm trying to pick out a good edge to edge screen protector that will work with an S-View cover on a Galaxy S7 (not s7 edge or active, just plain s7) and was hoping someone has one they know will work with popping off, or bowing or anything from the case being on.
Pic related.
Bumping in hope of a good answer.

Maybe some people can contribute some information on how to mod old phones and use them as music players since pretty much everyone has a couple phones somewhere in a drawer .

Finished bachelors degree in CS, after working in the field for 3 years by now I haven't found anything I learned there to be usefyl, apart from some unix and sql stuff that I could have learned by myself in less than a day. CS degree is just a formality these days. Most of the study programs are really outdated
Do you think threadripper will have much of an impact upon the server market?
>>60879905
No, it's not a server CPU.
Whatever they call the server Snowy Owl variants will though.
>>60879905
Yes. The fact that it will exist is enough to make an impact.

Is the Ryzen 5 1600 the new 2500k?
Looking to do a new build and currently debating between that and the 7600k
Gayming performance is of no matter to me
6 cores and 12 threads or 4 cores. Hard decision
Ryzen is nehalem.
Zen2 will be sandy bridge if they can get their clocks higher, which shouldn't be ridiculously hard
>>60879722
Obviously the 6 core. Get the 8 core Ryzen 7 if you can.
Is Free Software the most autistic ideology of all?
Making a political statement about something that normies can't even comprehend, alienates you further in a crowd of already spergy programmers.
The emphasis on libre rather than free doesn't matter so much in practice, as free cost almost invariably follows from open source. The only challenges are packaging and distribution, which is also provided at no charge by Free Software autists. The benefits are also limited in practice, as few have the capacity to grok source code and most autists would rather spend their time tweaking their window managers for screenshots.
Not to mention, most Free Software volunteers are unpaid for their contributions, ensuring that NEETbux or family are necessary for survival. This is lower than slavery, at least slaves are provided a living.
>>60879618
I agree partly.
But I think all software should simply be mandated to be open source, even paid software. Copyright and patents are enough to protect it to make sure the company can keep selling even when the source code is freely available. That way there is no hidden telemetry/backdoors/holes/bugs devs overlooked, etc.
