I followed the example and made the root folder an XFS filesystem, so I don't know why the kernel's panicking over this.

I can't say much about gnome or xfce. I use xfce when I have normies by and they have to use my computer, or when I have need of a normal stacking window DE.

Mostly I'm on i3wm.
