FAQ

>What is TempleOS?
See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqY2wuvlruo --TempleOS (formerly J Operating System, SparrowOS and LoseThos) is a biblical themed lightweight operating system created over the span of a decade by programmer Terry A. Davis.
>How did TempleOS start?
Development for TempleOS began in 2003 after Davis suffered from a series of manic episodes that left him briefly hospitalized for mental health issues.
Davis is a former atheist who believes that he can "talk with God" and that God told him the operating system he built was God's official temple. According to Davis TempleOS is of 'Divine' intellect due to the inspired nature of the code. According to Davis, God said to create the operating system with 640x480, 16 colors display and a single audio voice. The operating system was coded in a programming language developed by Davis in C/C++ called "HolyC". The OS runs a file system called "Red Sea".
>What can TempleOS do?
TempleOS deliberately has no network support. It runs 8-bit ASCII with graphics in source code and has a 2D and 3D graphics library, which run at 640x480 VGA with 16 colors. The OS contains numerous embedded biblical references including a program called AfterEgypt which allows users to "communicate with God" through an oracle.

Windows is shit for developing. GNU/Linux is obviously the next choice, and superior for development, but can't run mac exclusives and more importantly the Adobe Suite or Sketch. If you want to design and develop, mac is the overlap, you have to get a mac.

Mac does it all, tell me I'm wrong /g/.

>Windows is shit for developing.

hmmm...

* Visual Studios
* IntelliJ/Android Studio
* Eclipse
* Most important command line dev tools can be installed: ssh, git, maven, npm)
* every text editor ever made (even vim and emacs)
* rock-solid desktop environment and file browser (multiple desktops with win 10)
* many options for virtualization
* Office suite, Outlook, Skype/Lync

If you're not trying to write iOS apps for SWPL strivers there's really no reason to pay the Apple hardware tax.

Linux is fine for development as a platform, but the Gnome and KDE desktop environments leave a lot to be desired.

INTEL BTFO

>This warning advisory is relevant for users of systems with the Intel
processors code-named "Skylake" and "Kaby Lake". These are: the 6th and
7th generation Intel Core processors (desktop, embedded, mobile and
HEDT), their related server processors (such as Xeon v5 and Xeon v6), as
well as select Intel Pentium processor models.

>TL;DR: unfixed Skylake and Kaby Lake processors could, in some
situations, dangerously misbehave when hyper-threading is enabled.
Disable hyper-threading immediately in BIOS/UEFI to work around the
problem. Read this advisory for instructions about an Intel-provided
fix.

>This advisory is about a processor/microcode defect recently identified on Intel Skylake and Intel Kaby Lake processors with hyper-threading enabled. This defect can, when triggered, cause unpredictable system behavior: it could cause spurious errors, such as application and system misbehavior, data corruption, and data loss.

>It was brought to the attention of the Debian project that this defect is known to directly affect some Debian stable users (refer to the end of this advisory for details), thus this advisory.

>Please note that the defect can potentially affect any operating system (it is not restricted to Debian, and it is not restricted to Linux-based systems). It can be either avoided (by disabling hyper-threading), or fixed (by updating the processor microcode).

>Due to the difficult detection of potentially affected software, and the unpredictable nature of the defect, all users of the affected Intel processors are strongly urged to take action as recommended by this advisory.
>>
>The only reason to buy an i7 over an i5 is broken

Wew lad, what an embarrassment. Can this be fixed with a BIOS update?
>>
>>61080064
Sure it can, just hope your motherboard actually gets the fix.

I love the idea of using something other than plastic on the body of a computer, so it's really annoying when I see the one company that attempts it fuck it up completely.
It would have been awesome if they put leather or wood paneling on it or something. Instead they used craft felt.

Investing in queer youth events

In their own words, Maven “fosters solutions that empower queer youth to network, organize, and educate for social change”, and they’ve helped hundreds of teens go on to study tech-related fields and build careers as developers. We’ll be supporting their ambitious roadmap to reach more LGBTQ youth in tech hubs and rural areas through curriculum consultation, volunteering, and co-hosting for their three main core programs: Tech Summits, Summer Tech Camps, and the Hack 4 Queer Youth Hackathon.

What a shit book, it felt as if it was a magazine or something, never fully explained anything in detail just gave a brief table of contents on everything. Are there any books that are actually up to date that explain more about the essentials? Is it just trial and error searching the internet for solutions and hundreds of videos watching someone else explain concepts to me?
Why isn't there a book or set of books I can just consume knowing full well its all updated and I won't have to listen to someone explain things to me at their pace. I don't know how operating systems work and the tanenbaum book isn't enough
