Why is Debian the best GNU/Linux distro out there?

will debian continue to support i386 or have there been talks about dropping it
>>61418695
I think it will keep supporting it.
Debian's not your edgy hip Arch distro trying to ditch old hardware.
You forgot
>supports everything
and
>pretty light

Friend is learning JavaScript as her first language. Should I stop her?

Makes sense
>>61417930
she will have a higher paying job than all of us in 3 months
>>61417930
Friends don't let friends learn Javascript.
I've seen it both in job ads (often as an alternative to job experience for entry level programming jobs), or had it come up during actual interviews.
Have you had this happen?
Did it help you get a job?
What sort of projects do you have on there?
>>61417860
>Have you had this happen?
Yes, recruiters frequently come across my GitHub and send me an email asking if I'm available for a talk over the phone.
>Did it help you get a job?
I already have a job, so no, not yet. But if I was actively looking, I guess it would.
>What sort of projects do you have on there?
A LOT of crap, but also some work-related stuff. Some TCP and libpcap stuff, some CUDA stuff, some driver stuff, some FizzBuzz Java crap, project Euler, a PHP microframework I wrote ages ago etc
>>61417944
Is it just connected to you by name or are you linking to it from LinkedIn?
>>61417963
Just by name. But I use the same email for both, and I guess the recruiter version of LinkedIn has some more advanced search functionality.
Is the XPS 15 a good laptop? I got the money to burn and was looking at a MacBook Pro until I saw this
>>61417637
The fact that you were even considering apple, but not for it's OS, as you are now looking to abandon it, means that literally any laptop with good specs will be good enough for you.
Why stop there, though? Why not Alienware or Vaio?
>>61417637
I hope you're not planning on using Winshit.
>>61417662
Vaio??? That is now shit.
What's /g/'s favourite high-level programming language and why?
I personally believe that Ruby is better than python even though I've learned them both.
I like Julia a lot.

Never heard of that before Anon, What's it most commonly used for?

THANK YOU BASED INTEL

I can't wait for the throttling
>>61417604
Kaby Lake i5-7300U runs at 2.6ghz. This is a downgrade for most laptop uses.
>>61417604
>3.4Ghz single core
Literal garbage.
Clearly Intel never got their power gating under control if it can't turbo a single core to 4.0.
What are the best hair clipper brands?

use open source scissors. it does everything a hair clipper does.
>>61417576
Ones that work. Beyond that, who cares? They are a utility item, not a luxury item.
>>61417576
Those with firmware freedom.

I am off to college later this summer.
Any chance I will get invited to parties with grills with my X200 or do I need a fagbook to be accepted by others on campus?
X200 is the shit.
With a laptop like that one you don't even want to go to parties.
>>61417532
But think of the grills anon
Also pic related
just bee yourself
besides why would you convene with the sheeplings?
What have you done with yours Anon?
Personally I just set up Pi-Hole.
I also made a very basic C# NotifyIcon to show me some data about the last 24 hours.

I would also love to know. I have one pi as a arcade cabinet, but would love to know other ideas as well as I have still one unused pi.

2. Run a web scraper/twitter bot
Would like inspiration for something that isn't hardware
What is the point of this in comparison to something like Signal or Wire?
To converse with normalscum
>>61417486
But does it do anything different? I've never used it, and care about my privacy enough to where I'm not even willing to try using it.
>>61417501
Dog filters, news/tabloids, sending nudes and just the fact that most normies don't even know what Signal or Wire are. Also they either don't care about privacy or don't know it's being violated.

Are there any cons to overclocking?
>>61416909
You speed up time and you die sooner
>>61416909
Running higher voltages through the chip can increase the rate of diffusion and cause the chip to die sooner than it otherwise would have done. I haven't heard anything to suggest the effect is awfully pronounced. I've heard one account of it happening very quickly and that was somebody running nearly 1.5V through a Ryzen chip for several weeks straight and getting a degradation where it required even more voltage to be stable at that clock.
>>61416909
Time wasting if you want it to be perfect balance of clock/volt
