Has anyone built an app this way?

Please no, Java alone is bad enough

I just use Elm and cordova and I'm happy with that.

I believe React native has way more support, but React 16.0 will be released soon and some stuff in RN doesn't work properly.

whats the point then?
Sup /g/, I this old direct tv home client and am interested in re purposing it. My initial thought was to make it some sort of access point.
Theres not a lot of information about this kind of project since im pretty sure DTV likes to lock their shit down (not even a single screw on the outside of the damn thing).
Any ideas on what I can do? Or at a bare minimum any ideas on how I can get access to it from my computer so I can potentially reverse engineer or root it?
>>61293030
look into key sharing (IKS) or SKS, that box is useless
I commend you for your nascent hacking spirit, but you're not going to get very far with this "ask people for step 1" approach.
Turn off your computer, play some music and just fuck with the thing for a while. Poke and pry, take notes on stuff you see once you get it open, etc. Learn what's going on in there and let your imagination have an actual chance first.

Im more of asking if knowlede already exists for getting access to the device. Im pretty new to this kind of project, and while tearing it apart has always been on my mind as an option, perhaps someone here has some info on rooting such a device before I start breaking things.

Then lurk moar, faggot. Your question would have easily been answered through 5 seconds of google.

ITT : updating old ass desktops.
I made a mid-level desktop back in 2009. It sat in storage for 8 years. When it came out, I realized it was now a piece of shit.
I need to update it to be a mid-tier 2017 machine, but I don't know what I can keep / scrap / update.
Is any of this salvageable, or should I just start over?
Here are the specs of the original machine:
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ASUS M4A78-E AM3/AM2+ AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4850 DirectX 10.1 100258-1GHDMI 1GB 256-Bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M700 RS-700-AMBA-D3 700W ATX12V V2.3 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb Quad-Core 3.2 GHz Socket AM3 125W HDZ955FBGIBOX Processor
OCZ Blade Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model OCZ2B800C44GK
Western Digital Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Sony Optiarc DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model AD-7241S-0B LightScribe Support
Didn't even read the specs but I can tell you that it's worth about 5% original value now. Rip out the hdd, chuck everything else.
Alternatively run windows 7 on it and just keep it as a facebook machine.
So what about case and power supply? Can these be saved? 700W seems sufficient but are there other specs that might prohibit this from working with a new mobo etc.

Ask in the /pcbg/ thread
For fucks sake /g/, my damn monitor is flickering. Did all the usual troubleshooting.
It's a Samsbung BX2431. Decent monitor with absolute crap viewing angles.
What does /g/ recommend for a cheap, good monitor that actually has good viewing angles?
>buried my phone in the beach sand so that it would stay cool while i was blasting some kanye in my ears
why didnt you tell me g
>>61291945
We presumed, apparently incorrectly, that it was one of those things that we shouldn't have to tell you.
Since you needed to be told about sand in your phone, I should mention that you shouldn't stick your hand in a running garbage disposal, and you shouldn't play in power lines.

My windows crashed, and was wondering what was my best bet to do;
I want to reinstall windows 7 but don't really want to have to pay $100 for the software. Is there any free versions of windows i could install and use my computer? Im guessing it is pretty easy for microsoft to figure out which computers have pirated "genuine" windows running on their computer so thats probably more risky then anything, right? So would i just be better off trying to save up the $100 for windows 7 boot disc/install disc whatever it is?
And yes money is tight. Not that i am not working, sadly just don't make enough.

The best thing to do is to reinstall Windows 7. If you had a valid license before, it's still usable for reinstallation on the same system.
