so why aren't sound webms allowed on every board? how come you can post audio webms in /wsg/, but you cant request source for those webms in /wsr/ ?

is 4chan just very slow to update, or is there a conscious decision to disallow audio webm posting in blue boards? does it have something to do with the nature of the file itself?

Ah yes. I remember the days of the internet wild west fondly. The days when limewire and kazoo dominated illegal file sharing. The heyday of flash-based browser gaming. Runescape, Adventure Quest, Club Penguin. Before tracking. Before widespread social media. Before the dawn of the social justice warrior. Truly a time that is beyond us now. I remember these days as I would a fallen comrade.

No, that internet was shite too. So was the mid-late 90s internet. It hasn't been good since AOL ruined Usenet and all the BBS communities that had been tight for years slowly died off.

Hi Bros,
so I'm in a pickle, I have a 24TB Dell server (forgot which model) and all the slots are full and maxed out (RAID 6).

Is getting a Drobo just to archive stuff from this server a good idea to put on the same network? Or is Synology better?

Looking to expand maybe 16TB additional of space via RAID 5 on a DROBO or a Synology.

Any recommendations appreciated it.

Thanks

No, its a retarded idea. Drobos and Synologies are shitboxes. They'll die after a few years because they use Intel Atoms which have serious known issues. Even if they didnt it would still be retarded. You should just buy a HBA/RAID card with external SAS ports, or a internal to external SAS adapter bracket and a disk shelf. It will be cheaper and better and you'll get far more expansion capability.
>>
>>61757768
>HBA/RAID card

OOh that's a hot idea actually.

My server (T320 just found out) has a hardware RAID card already with SAS ports in the back (I think there's 2).

Would you recommend an external SAS box to connect this to?

Maybe in the future I can expand the DELL server but I have to move like 20TB of stuff and then replace drives and then copy it back to the server which is a pain.
>>
>>61757829
>My server (T320 just found out) has a hardware RAID card already with SAS ports in the back (I think there's 2).
Then that'll save you $50.

>Would you recommend an external SAS box to connect this to?
Whatever is cheap on ebay. Just be aware that anything is 3gbps SAS1 will likely only support 2TB disks, so look for something which is 6gbps SAS2. You can also find eSAS cables on there for cheap. You can also daisy chain multiple disk shelfs together.

Be aware that it'll probably be loud with fans which dont do speed control, so be prepared to replace them.

Alternatively if you want to build something which can be repurposed in the future, go find some Super Micro chassises with SAS expanders (not with the direct connect backplanes), buy internal to external sas brackets, the cabling and part number CSE-PTJBOD-CB1. Should you ever want a 2nd server in the future all you'll have to do is replace the CSE-PTJBOD-CB1 card with a motherboard/cpu/ram.

>Maybe in the future I can expand the DELL server but I have to move like 20TB of stuff and then replace drives and then copy it back to the server which is a pain.

Why would any sane person think its a good idea to give away the fruit of years of their labor and any competitive advantage, for free. And any pajeetski could just copy paste, closed up the source and take credit if they feel like it?

Because software piracy exists
>>
>>61757544
And any pajeetski could just copy paste, closed up the source and take credit if they feel like it?

but that's wrong you idiot.
free software doesn't mean public domain or non-copyrighted software.

the author still owns a copyright (nobody can do anything without sourcing you) and with non-cuck licenses like Apache 2.0 or GPL nobody can release any copy or derivative of the software without releasing it under a license at least as free.

People get caught and sued for a ton of money every year on things like GPL violations. You can't "just copy paste" off someone's github and release a closed source (or one that does not give credit to the owner of the copyright) copy and expect to get away with it.
>>
>>61757582
>sued for GPL violation
lmao

If you're oracle, sure.
If your project name doesn't start with LINUX, the GNU GPL conservatory is NOT going to waste their precious funds defending your no-name GPL software

So I have been using this command to move files between directories, but I have faced some issues with it in the past.
I tried once to move one of the files to a folder that is not created, and what I got is a message says that the file is moved.
The problem is when I go to locate my file, I can't find it any more, and instead of the folder I get a new file with the folder name that I typed in the move command, and I am unable to open it, and I assume that my file is inside this new file as the size of my file is the same as this new one.
So is it a problem in Windows? Or can I even return my file back.
I think it should give an error from the start that the system can't find the destination folder.

No what you got was a message saying it couldn't be moved

123.txt is a text file that was created on the desktop.
After typing the move command to a folder that has not been created, the system creates a new file that can't be opened.
And I already tried the same thing in XP.
>>
>>61758684
All you did there was rename 123.txt to Test

It can be opened, you were just retarded and didnt give it a dot 3 extension so it doesnt know what program to open it with. You either manually choose a program to open it with or give it a dot 3 extension like .txt

Putting the AIO aside, how will the regular Vega do next Summer? Since the shit only has one fan do you think it'll heat up and burn your houses quickly or will it do fine? Very tempting to snatch one when it releases, but seeing how it has one fan fucks everything up

I'm very tempted.

My current graphics card is the AMD 6950 (circa 2010). The performance has obviously degraded but I've been waiting to see how Gsync/Freesync pan out, and I was broke. AMD dropped support this year and I have the cash so I'm ready to upgrade. But Nvidia's cards are ancient. Gotta wait for the next generation. Or get another AMD card, but that's a sinking ship.

Will Nvidia respond at the 1070 price point? soon? Does that even matter when you factor in the additional cost of Gsync over Freesync? Are monitors settled to a point where I can safely disregard HDR? Is an affordable high refresh rate 4k monitor a possibility (as a second for gaming)?

Buying now is risky, but monitor tech moves glacially. Opportunity cost?
>>
>>61757253
you assume that for a year there will be no AIB cards on the market to buy?
>>
As far as housefire concerns go, the only one you might really have to worry about is one you probably won't get because it's one that is only a rumor at this point, and that is a modern version of the Asus Rog Ares. (the old one featured two GPU's on one card)

Having two Vega's on one PCB might be OK if you have a very good water cooling setup, but a potential TDP of 600+ might frighten most people away.

look at peoples predictions for what processor technology should be like by 2011
https://www.geek.com/chips/intel-predicts-10ghz-chips-by-2011-564808/

>if 10 ghz is the best that intel can do by 2011, amd or somebody else is going to eat their lunch. intel better pick up the pace

>we won't even be runing silicon chips at all by then. maybe we'll all be running dna computers, where mhz and ghz and thz are irrelevant. just think. what kind of computer were you running in 1989? i never dreamed of computers like the one i have (which is low-end, by today's standards) back in 1989.

> by 2011, it will be necessary to have expansion cards (i.e. graphics cards, sound cards, or whatever) at all. the future computer i envision ... would be a box, with ports, that could be configured to do any number of functions ... added just-in-timeā€¦

>by 2011 we will have implementation of quantum processing that will make the xhz debate look like the colonists debating over sucession from the uk.
