On day 3 of a nasty head cold, I'm feeling much better now but my joints still hurt like hell and I've got a lot of phlegm, even when doing simple stuff like pushups. Should I man up and hit the gym or rest on it until I'm totally better?

rest, dont exercise until you feel better. its stupid, will prolong your sickness, weaken your immune system. your body is stressed enough fighting of the sickness already, dont put more stress unto it.
drink lots of water and tea, garlic, dont smoke, sleep as much as possible. wash your bed sheets. get well soon anon, once youre healthy again you can start lifting. its not the end of the world to miss 2-3 workouts
