what the fuck am i supposed to do when a guy asks me to spot him when he does incline db press? i'm pretty new to the gym and a guy asked me to spot him. i just told him to "simply drop the weights" and he gave me this dirty look like i murdered his family. then i stood there like an idiot behind him watching him press dbs
I've been lifting for 6 years and I refuse to spot anyone.
Suffice to say I haven't made any friends at the gym yet and everybody tends to ignore me.
I don't spot anyone because the one and only time I did spot someone, they were super rude to me when I was spotting them because I touched the bar when I didn't need to, after that experience I never did it again.
Fucking cunts, don't ask for a spot and be a rude cunt about it. I hate people.

Unless you're at a Planet Fitness (hurr durr lunk alarm) it's not about dropping the weights. He wanted a spot so he doesn't dislocate his shoulder during a later rep. When you spot for db presses it's more about making sure they maintain a proper range of motion as they reach exhaustion.

so how do i do that? do i hold his hands straight or what?

No you push him off the bench and do the reps for him that's obviously what he wants
When he shows sign of struggle gently carress his tricep or near his elbow and push up
