fucking around a little too much recently, got absolutely smashed last weekend, gave myself minor alcohol poisoning, and it really showed in training today. Snatch looked ugly as fuck and I kept losing forward.

on the bright side though I deloaded on squats and really focused on keeping my hips tight and they came out real nice. Only did 75% for a 3x5 but it was encouraging

Anyway, any good drills for me to do to stop this from getting worse? I try to do the "couch stretch" but I feel that in my quads.

I've never had to do any stretching, I've always had good enough mobility so this is new to me.

well that's kind of natural to feel it in your quads. The rectus femoris is a quad muscle and a hip flexor at the same time, and tight hips and tight quads often go together. Bear in mind you need to maintain posterior pelvic tilt when you do those stretches.

I actually noticed that I was getting anterior pelvic tilt and that was causing my tightness issues rather than the other way around. Make sure your glutes are engaged during the movement, and that your core is active too. Try doing some short 10-15 second planks before you lift, and don't just look at the hips as the source of tightness.

Thanks for the response mate. I think I might be starting to get anterior pelvic tilt. I've noticed my lower back is getting tight as well. I've been really slacking.

I would practice light yoga movements daily but it's been months since.

The planks sound like a good idea. Sometimes I would do a few light sets of hip thrusts before lifting and that always felt good.

yeah I find it pretty interesting how we can almost forget to engage muscles if we slack on them, especially in day-to-day rather than in the gym. I mean if you do WL you're pretty much squatting every session in some variation or another (ohs in snatch, front squat in clean, back squat etc) so it's weird that it happens, but it does.

Eric Cressey and Greg Kekols talk about how we're pretty much always able to brace when we pick something up off the floor because we do it so often, but unless you've been squatting since you were a babby you don't have the motor patterns as strictly ingrained for sitting down and back up again with something heavy and that means that sometimes your body won't remember how to do it quite as well. Nuckols thinks this is part of the reason our deadlifts/pulls are higher than our squats but more comparable in people who trained from child

I already go like 4x week minimum for technique work and I like front squatting, which is why I'd like to do it every time I go but I'm not sure how I'd vary it.

It's random or consecutive. I usually go 4x-5x a week on average.

I'm still learning technique for classics and my coach is making sure it's perfect before I begin to add weight which is why I want to do frontsquats.

Im literally doing nothing right now, only random squats.

No heavy work or anything, which is why I'm asking for a routine where I can frontsquat 4x a week. I'm willing to give 6x a week a try if it's viable for my strength level.

TLDR; my coach probably won't let me into real classics programming for another 2 months until my tech is perfect.

Guy, there is no fucking way linear progression would not work for you with a 90kg front squat. You could front squat three or four times a week, adding five pounds each session, and you should see progress if you're eating and sleeping properly. Decided to back off and do lower rep ranges for 5, and I even squat a lot less.

Where are you guys coming from? There has been an efflux of guys who think the squats are technically difficult and require years or even months of practice. No motherfucker, squats take a week to get right, at most. You literally have to be a retard to not know HOW to do it right.

Limiting factor is mobility, which should be your fucking focus, not these lifts specifically

Does anyone else get foot pain from wearing their oly shoes for extended periods of time? If I curl my toes upwards I get this sharp pain that radiates from my toes and up my foot, like the red lines on this image. Is it some tendon shit?
It goes away after a while when I take the shoes off. I'm gonna start rolling out my plantar more often to see if that helps.

you probably bang the bar way too hard when you do initiate contact, so it gets too far away from you. I would assume that if you go heavy on no contact stuff you'll naturally make very soft contact

One thing that helped me was keeping knees out. When my knees were forward, my extension would make the bar loop outwards, but when knees were out I'd keep the bar way closer
