Stop lifting do bodyweight training.
>>
Martial arts & caliesthenics.
>>
>>35180931
You can complete it with lifting but only a little.
Mostly you are right
>>
>>35180902
Bruce Lee did lift weights too, even through it wasn't his focus.
Through he got some really shitty workout on it, since there wasn't really many studies on what kind of routine would be best for a fighter that time.
>>
>>35180931
this + cardio
>>
Run, hit heavybags, and eat moderately big. Preferably avoid Chinese food, all that sodium killed Bruce Lee dawg.

Cardio, calisthenics, body weight exercises, barbel training. Keep carbs to a bare minimum. Drink green tea.

>calisthenics
Calisthenics fags have to be the most retarded people in the fitness industry. Worse than crossfit even. Let me clear something up for you retards. Calisthenics doesn't make you build a different type of muscle or make you look different than weighlifting. You build the same amount of muscle just 3 times slower and at then of it you also end up 3 times weaker and disproportionate
>>
>>35182672

If you have a proper routine with correct form and nutritional sense+sleep you can have a better body than lifting in half the time. Be prepared to do 5 sets of everything though.
>>
>>35182672
With calisthenics I don't have to buy a fucking home gym. Beat that faggot.
>>
>>35182672
Alright let's see your dragon pistols, planche pushups and L-sit then. Should be pretty easy if you've been lifting weights for some time and it builds the same muscles more efficiently anyway.

The muscles you grow are the same muscles except that no calisthenics exercises will ever build your legs the same way weigh exercises will

>you build the same amount of muscle
>you end up 3 times weaker

Strength doesn't come from muscles mass you retard. You would know that if you lifted

>what does it come from retard?
Well what he said is true though, a gymnast's legs aren't particularly huge but they possess incredible strength (which is the point as any and all unnecessary mass would be counterproductive). That said, you will of course gain some mass anyway.

Yeah, I've yet so see a curl bro be able to do a full planche, or a pistol squat.

Yet all the time I have girls tell me they love my bod, that its hot and 'not too much' like you try hard faggots.

This is just the rage of someone who got big, swelled up, and looks like shit full of sarcoplasmic fluid instead of myofibrillar fibers.

While you're pumping out 15 reps of curls with low weight I'm outside doing a 1 arm pull up from a tree, gettin' mires'.

yeah, because I totally want to look like that guy. I could give a shit how much he lifts.

No one will ever know it. If he tried to talk to girls at the pub, they'd spit on him.

The only reason you people idolize these guys is because you can justify your fat-asses as " hurr-durr I'm a powerlifter". No, you're just addicted to food and in denial and NOT physically fit.

If that is your goal then you probably have autism, but then again this if /fit

Anyway, if I wanted to be a powerlifter, I'd go lift heavy stuff. But I don't want a massive bulk and I do want speed, which is why I fucking asked about Bruce Lee. I don't even know why the fucking powerlifters are in here and I don't care to figure it out, because I have better things to do.

Lets settle this once and for all fit

Weightlifting is superior if you want to get stronger, more muscular in a shorter period of time, its builds up your CNS, bones, connective tissue etc..... like nothing else.

Callisthenics, while great for a beginner take a lot of time to build muscle and very quickly plateau, it takes a to of time to make minimal amounts of improvements.

Weightlifting also gives improvements which stand the test of time far better than for example cardio, Cardio can be trained for years and if you stop for a month it all goes to shit, cardio gains come quickly and leave faster, strength gains stay much longer because your body has to restructure itself to deal with the pressures.

That said the best thing to do is to use both.
>>
>>35183541

Calisthenics are good, but for speed look at plyometrics expecially. This means explosive movements. Clapping push ups, sprints, box jumps.

This is how fighters train and gain fast-twitch muscle fibers.
>>
>>35183540
>uses bodyweught exercises to measure strength
>calls others retarded
Do you ever stop and think "I don't even lift weights. What kind of sad person am I that I post on a fitness forum and argue about things I have no clue about or even practice myself"
>>
>>35183567
another anon here, but you should also explain to him how explosively is determined largely by genetics.
>>
>>35183567
>plyometrics

Yeah, that's included in the SEALs thing, clapping push-ups, hops, broad jumps, box jumps, all that good shit. Thanks for the advice, though.
>>
>>35183316
this
strength adds a little size but size also adds a little strength.

in the long run its also very important to do high reps when you're focusing on strength. just watch George Leeman his videos on youtube.
>>
>>35183559

Calisthenics trains your CNS better, as you are using your whole body constantly to stabilize.

Also, if you think it doesn't withstand the test of time, check out the vid below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMe2JyoIOYk
>>
Are people in this thread right here implying you can't be a strong person who lifts heavy weights and look good?
>>
>>35183583
if you're the OP, you do know that bruce lee used to do weightlifting too right?

“At its very core, power is dependent upon strength: force production capacity that does not exist cannot be displayed, ”
>>
>>35183574
>Lifting weights is the only measure of fitness
Just leave.
>>
>>35183613
Yes, which is why I also do some lifting, sledgehammer exercises, etc. I'm not a powerlifter or anything close to it, though.
>>
>>35183594
What are you lifting in callisthenics? Your body.

whats the difference between a pullup and a weighted pullup?

If someone can do their bodyweight pulp for x times and some else does a pull-up at the same bodyweight for x times but with 30kgs added, who is stronger?

I was talking about cardio when i mentioned the test of time.
>>
Looks like you need to cut up your face and stomach OP
>>
>>35183619
he used to do squats and deadlifts, fyi seals also do these things they simply arent part of the military curriculum, but they do do it.
>>
>>35183623
#cut4Bruce
>>
>>35183576

To be honest, anon, a lot of things are determined by genetics. But that doesn't mean you can't overcome your shortcomings through effort and training. I won't ever be Floyd Mayweather, I know that. But I can replicate his training and achieve similar results.

When I started, i couldn't do a clapping push up. But through training, effort, and persistence, I achieved my goal. Now I may not be able to push off the ground the highest, or the fastest, but I still achieved some semblance of "explosiveness."

Not trying to be a dick, just that the "it's all genetics" mentality can be dangerous. It makes it too easy to make excuses. "I'll never have the pecs of Arnold so I might as well never lift" is a bad place to be.

We are all limited by our genetics to a certain extent, but we can strive to achieve great things with what we have.
>>
>>35183576
OP here. Why should I care? If I exercise, I'll still be more fit than I am now. I'm not judging my success by everyone elses' yardstick. That's manlet talk.

>>35183637
> It makes it too easy to make excuses.
>We are all limited by our genetics to a certain extent, but we can strive to achieve great things with what we have.

Exactly.
>>
>>35183637
I appreciate what you're saying, my point is The ability to recruit motor units rapidly is, unfortunately, largely a matter of genetic endowment. It involves the density and quality of nerve supply to the muscles, the type of fiber, the motor end plate characteristics, and other variables that are only trainable to a limited extent. Vertical jump is a naked view into the workings of the neuromuscular system, and this is why it is regarded as such a reliable diagnostic tool for they identification of the ability to produce power. It too is limited in its ability to be improved through training. A kid with a 15" vertical will never have a 23", no matter what he does.

Anon, I used to play HS football. Went to the gym everyday, I loved it. But then I discovered calisthenics at Uni, and I'm even more in love.

It's convenient, I can do it at home before class in my underwear. Don't have to pay gym fees, and I've gotten great results.

I don't claim to be an expert on anything, but I have experience with both. I'm sorry I shattered your beliefs.

Btw, here's a pic of me, pure calisthenics gains. Maybe I could be bigger if I lifted weights. But I have no problems getting pussy or compliments and 'if it ain't broke I don't fix it.'

Oh and someone asked about explosivity, Power is strength expressed quickly. It is force production with the benefit of rapid motor unit recruitment. So before the quick part happens, the force part must be possible. The single easiest way to improve power is to improve strength, since without strength power cannot exist. This is just arithmetic, and it needs no study.

>>35184048

Every morning I do 3 sets of a pushing, a pulling, and a leg excercise. I switch it up each day. I focus on maximum strength and low reps. For example, I'm working towards a 1 arm pull up, so I'll do I rep with 1 arm assisted (controlled cheating to work up the strength) with a very slow negative. Normal pushups are easy now, so I focus on harder progressions where I can really only do like 5 reps. But damn if it doesn't tear up those muscle fibers. For legs thing like pistol squats (not quite there yet), and leg raises. Or box jumps.

For example, this morning I did:
>pulling: L-sit pull ups, 5 reps, 3 sets (back/shoulders)
>pushing: handstand push ups against wall (for shoulders)
^ I eventually want to be able to them without the wall, but I still have a lot of work to do
>legs: assisted pistol squats in door-frame (these HURT if done slowly)

Takes me about a half hour, then I shower and get on with my day.

I focus on good form and slow negatives. I don't claim to be a pro and I have a lot of work to do still. But even at an intermediate level I've seen good results. Consistency is key, if you follow the progressions you will succeed.

Also, don't forget diet. I don't believe in bulking and cutting. I just try to eat well for lean gains to look good 100% of the time. This requires restraint, which a lot of people don't have.

When something becomes easy, move on to a harder progression. There's always a harder progression, it never ends.

>>35184078
