calling a probably around fourthousand year old tradition which has been practiced in probably every world religion "current craze"

Seems like I know who isn't getting rid of his ego properly.
>>

>Oldest record of meditation is 6000+ years old

We have a genius here, folks

>>
>>35171947

>not doing so 24/7, doesnt matter what else you do at the same time

cumon step it up
>>
>>35171947
What mantras do you use?
>>
>>35172043
B-but if I do this I will stop being a mindless zombie
>>
Is meditation the same as daydreaming?
>>
Nice biceps tho.
Do they have any kind of routine?
>>
>>35172110
It's almost the opposite. You're trying to completely clear your mind and not think about whatever bullshit you would if you were daydreaming
>>
>>35172110
On the contrary, this is your brain day-dreaming or distracted: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Default_mode_network also know as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Task-negative

This is your brain while meditating on breath or working: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Task-positive_network
>>
>>35172140
>>35172180
So you just focus on breathing in and out or say something in your head so your minder stays on point and doesn't wander?
>>
>>35171947
>meditates daily
>not Zen enough to know that everyone will find their own path

You're just sitting there with your eyes closed.
>>
>>35172221
Read up on different techniques and figure out what's best for you. Personally, simply focusing on breath control works real well for me. Others do mental images like a natural backdrop physical focus points like the flame of a candle. So long as you're actively relaxing your mind and suppressing external concerns you're doing the right thing.
>>
>>35172241
>y-you cant tell me I'm wrong!!! every path is exactly as go as the next!!
>>
>>35171947
I've been unzipped and things I don't like thinking about creep into my mind when I'm not doing anything.
>>
>>35172221
I dont usually say something in my head. Yes, I pretty much observe the breath for long periods of time. If you have a mantra, say it out loud. If you are going to read a book, read it out loud, so that it becomes a task. I have recently realised normal people can't read outloud for shit, they hallucinate words
>>
>>35172110
>>35172140
>>35172180
>>35172221
there are however meditation techniques were your object of focus is thought. With a little bit of practice you will soon notice random images flashing before your eyes and random voices in your head. But unlike daydreaming you try not to get drawn away by these thoughts but rather notice them and let them pass.
Don't get hung up on concentrating on the breath or on thought for that matter. There is an abundance of different techniques some of which might be more useful to you than others.
>>
And ignore this >>35172269 mindless parrot.
>>
>>35172241
Nah son. I'm just doing this for breath control and brain health.
>>
>>35172270
Well, there are plenty of people with peace of mind who don't sit on the ground for twenty minutes a day who would agree with me.
>>
>>35172294
Shut the fuck up, ya crazy hippie :DD
You are just showing your lack of experience

In addition to counting breaths i focus on creating basic objects in my head. Unfortunately my mind drifts and I'm still able to maintain a breath count so i have to step it up sempai
>>
>>35172180
>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Task-negative
but are your gyrus angular?
>>
I masturbate first thing in the morning and before bed every day. Does that count?
>>
>>35172315
Look up headspace and start today, theres no specific time you need to meditate, some find it better in the morning, some before bed. The idea is that you learn the fundamentals and be able to apply them during the day.

Andy is amazing, if he didn't look like a crushed peanut he would be a perfect being.

Huh?
>>
>>35172408
Yes, mindless parrot. You are just parroting the many "methods" you heard and never verified. If you verified breath awareness, you would limit yourself to it. And if you haven't verified it, you have no experience with it, and you are basically just a distracted faggot parroting. Did you get it now?

>suppressing external concerns you're doing the right thing

Not really.

>How is what I said any different?

Because meditation has one universal goal, while fitness could be aesthetics, weight loss, health, strength etc You are a beginner, admit it. You can't diferentiate between meditation and bullshit. Just say it: "I learned this very lazily, I don't think as logically as I should about it, I often dont know what I am talking about but I will open my chakras"
>>
>>35172594
And you're just being an elitist faggot. Meditation is extremely broad and multi-functional, and insisting that personal experience and your own narrow viewpoint is trump is dumb. The only central truth is that "meditation" and focus exercises have solid scientifically backed neurological benefits .

>meditation
>current craze
Are you seriously implying something that near every body builder or successful athlete does is a craze?

>lowers blood pressure
proven
>relaxes mind
proven

Any amount of physical/mental stress you can take off the body improves health.

>>35171947
I meditate a few hours before bed during my relaxation period
>>
I've been mediating while sitting in a chair, is there any benefit to meditation while cross legged or even lying down?

Every monk image i find they are in a cross legged pose, but I'm assuming that's because eastern cultures didn't traditionally use chairs.
>>
>>35174079
No
Meditation outside of the spiritual realm is just a state of mental and physical relaxation.
Yes certain body positions restrict bloodflow and therefore can decrease effectiveness though.

I meditate laying down flat after stretching.
